honeymoon during orientation

Published

Hi All.

I will be graduating in May of 16, and most likely taking NCLEX in July, meaning orientation will be in august/september. I am getting married Sep 17 and the honey moon will the 18-25.... most likely during my RN orientation.

Will I lose out on a job because of this? Or will managers be flexible since this is the most important day of my life kinda thing?

Thanks ahead of time!!!

I got hired into my job the end of February. My wedding/honeymoon was in March. I told them up front in the interview if they hired me, I would need the time off. They had no problem. It's obviously something pre-planned. Good luck and congrats!

FYI you are in a field that you will have to sacrifice your personal happiness for. You will see this soon. You may want to hold off on the honeymoon until you get a guarantee job.

I'm not sure on what planet this is, but it's not the one I live in.

I wouldn't worry to much. You first need to be hired and that can take a month or two before all the paperwork is filled out, etc. I was offered my position 3mos after my initial interview. I then had to wait another month before I started hospital orientation (and at my facility, if you don't go to that, you lose the job). I didn't start unit orientation until 4.5 months later. Background checks, paperwork, etc take time. Don't think you are going to get hired right when you get your license, even if you have a pretty solid set up. HR works at their own pace, and it is typically not the pace of the hiring manager.

It just depends on the unit. On our unit, managers are pretty flexible when it comes to weddings/honeymoons. They're not HAPPY about giving extended time off, but they know it's an important life event. One of the girls that just got hired on our unit got married and had her honeymoon during orientation and they gave her a week off. Which when combined with her regular days off, she had off 15 days in a row. Just be honest and open about it with them in the interview and see what happens.
