Hello all the wonderful people in allnurses.com...greeting to you. So I am a recent new grad nurse. I passed my NCLEX in the beginning of Sept. I didn't start looking into finding jobs until 2 weeks ago...I was not having any luck in the hospitals...So I decide looking into nursing home, long term facilities and other medical center...I know it is hard to land a job in new york city specially. I have applied to a geriatric center for a home care nurse position and got my interview today...the nurse supervisor want to hire me and train me...I am very moved with the offer...So should I take it or not... FYI I get the job because of my language skills so not much people fit the requirements that they are looking for. My big question for you and for myself is...so I take it or wait around for hospital to hire me in the city... Thank you so much everyone! :heartbeat

Take the job offer! It may be the only one for one or two years.

:Di am sorry...i heard....hello all, i am a new grad and i know how super tuff this economy is yet i was fortunate enough to land a job theat they are willing to train me for after only a month of being an rn. so i am asking you, oh ppl who are fortunate to work in this tough market and you, oh ppl who have had ur license for a year plus and still no job offers....should i take this job or should i wait for something that may or may not come my way (by the looks of the job market and some hospitals not wanting to even consider new grads.......its possible but highly unprobable that another interview, let alone offer, will be in the near future),
take the job. take the job take the job. and dont forget to show them that yes indeed it is worth it to hire new grads (and train them in need be). who knows....maybe a successful new grad hire will make them more open to new grads in the future;)
Thank you for all the quick responses. I deeply appreciate it. I heard from an experienced home care nurse, that you don't learn as much in a home care setting, than a hospital setting. Does anyone know if this is true or not? I will probably take this job, but also volunteer in a hospital to get that exposure. Anyone who knows about the home care and would be kind enough to share some information or experiences, that would be great! Thank you!
so did you take the job?
The recruiter said he could call me back last week...didn't call back, so I call him back...he said the department is in the process of reviewing its application and stuff...but decision will be made soon... it makes me pretty confuse and worry. I thought everything went pretty well but...I don't know =.= how long is the wait and what if the decision is not what I am hoping for... sad
aah the waiting game....ui am also playing that game. i had an interview with an agency a week and a half ago. everything went fairly well. i was told to call the next day in the afternoon but before i could call the recruiter called me in the morning and asked me to come in for a second interview. i went yesterday and was interveiwed by a superviser and a director. both interviews went well. sooo no i am waiting for a call to here yay or nay or come in for yet another interview (the director said this is a possibility)
I wish you good luck in getting the job...at least there is still possibility...meaning still hope...please update me if you get it...may God be with you...!

Take it! You will be so happy and will be treated so much better than in the hospitals. You won't have to ask the CNAs to do their jobs; you won't be dealing with egomaniac doctors as much, there won't be a bunch of people hogging the nursing station, and most of all, you won't be trapped for a long shift with the same patients like a slave all day. Be glad you got an offer. Others have been looking for over a year!
Thank you so much for your suggestion~! Even though, the decision is still up in the air but I am looking forward for the position...:) May God bless you..
