Hi everyone!!
I graduate next Thursday. I'm looking into home health because I need a job pretty soon to save up money quickly. I'm pregnant and will be delivering in June so why would any facility hire someone for 2.5 months.
So how exactly can I prepare for a home health position?
Id also like advice on what and where I should apply due to my situation.
Thank you!!!

Most Homehealths want you to have at least a year of hospital experience, but once in a while new nurses get lucky. If they dont hire you don't take it personal.

My home health actually hires only experienced RN's. I would be leery about going into home health without any experience. It's you out there with a SICK patient.
Just had an experience today of a patient with 90% oxygen (usually 98%) and coorifice lung sounds all over along with fever. I left the room to call the doc and the daughter started yelling for me saying he was unresponsive. Didn't flinch to a sternal rub and sats were in the 50's. What do you do?
These are sick patients and can go down just as fast as in a hospital. The kicker is you are the only nurse with limited resources.
Thankfully this guy had updrafts and oxygen and I got him back up to 84% when the ambulance got there. They lived out of town so I was alone for about 10 minutes with a crashing patient. 10 minutes is a long time in a bad situation.

I'm a home health nurse and a fairly new grad (graduation was a year ago come October, License was in March). I have only worked home health and I LOVE IT!!!! My last 10 weeks of school I was able to do a wound care preceptorship and I am 100% sure that along with networking is what got me this job. I don't do shift work I do intermittent care and I love it. Look into it.

Like you, I find Home Health nursing to be very rewarding. I make a direct impact on my patients lives through my daily visits. When I first started this I had a lot of difficulty writing skilled nurses notes and filling out the OASIS. I didn't get a lot of help, either.
