I went to do a recert on a patient, she had fallen and her hip was hurting (ER said 0 fx). I felt she needed to go back to ER, which she did and was admitted with a hip fx. I didnt do the recert. I will now have to do a transfer, but will I also have to do a discharge? If so, which one...the oasis or the summary? Ive never had this situation before.

You will do the transfer oasis and then a non-visit discharge. When the pt comes out of the hospital, she will be a new SOC.

you do the transfer oasis, and you can check off the box that says "transfered to an inpatient facility, discharged from agency" that would eliminate having to do a summary.....if you check the one that says not discharged you will need to do a summay.....either way you do not have to do a d/c oasis.

the patient will be a new soc when they return to you.

Oops, you're right Berube. No discharge OASIS necessary as the transfer is considered the last OASIS, but the agency still has to discharge the patient and she will be a SOC when she comes out if you pick her back up for services.

Do the transfer, no discharge OASIS needed, but you will still need to do a DC summary.
