Does anybody know how to obtain a Home Health Nurse certification? I want to be a home health nurse but have zero yrs of experience, I was told that I should get a home health certificate which makes me more qualify.

Thanks,

I'm going through the same thing--no experience in home health. Have you had any luck finding certification? There is one for Hospice for LPNs but I haven't found a home health one.

When I looked up certification for home health, I found that it had been discontinued. I have had no problem being hired in home health without it. Initially, the employers prefer that one have one to two years experience in acute care, but there are some agencies that will hire nurses with less experience.

Thanks, Caliotter3; I'll keep applying!

You have to have several years of experience to qualify for certification in any specialty, although the home health certification has been discontinued. (Already certified nurses can still renew their certs.)

The best avenue into home health is a solid background in med-surg experience with chronic disease patients, such as those with CHF, COPD, diabetes, etc. Once you have acute-care experience with those populations, you will be more marketable to home health agencies.

You can take the OASIS certification test...to become a COS-C. But truly, even if you studied and passed it...without any hands-on HH experience it would not mean a whole lot. And, it would be hard to take the test without a working knowledge of OASIS.
