Home Health/Hospice Visit Pay by Location

Hi,

I've been away from home care nursing for about 10 years. I am hoping to be able to reduce my hours of work from 40-60 hours per week to part time work and am considering returning to home care/hospice on a part time basis. I am not primarily motivated by finances, but after working in nursing for >25 years, I'm ready to slow down a bit. I just don't know if I can afford to do this. I live in California but may have to consider a move if I can't afford to stay here.

Could some of you please let me know what I might expect from a per visit rate of pay for home care? My specialties have been oncology, HIV, ICU and CCU. Is it realistic to hope to work 20 hours per week in a home care position?

Thanks so much for your feedback!

I only know traveling Cali rates and that was 30.00 per hour and 3.00 for on call.

I work in Missouri and my per visit rate is $35 for regular return visits, and $40 for any visit that involves OASIS. I have heard of rates being quite a bit higher than this, but for this area, I think it's fairly standard.....plus mileage is 40cents per mile here.

I work as a home health nurse for a local hospital and make about $23/hour plus mileage, shift diff, and call pay. We get 3 hours of pay if we get called out + the time worked. I've only been working here since August, but I enjoy it more than I thought I would!

As of 9/1/05 mileage is now 48 1/2 per mile by law.

HERE IN TN WITH AMEDISYS WE ONLY GET 38 CENTS/MILE, AND THAT IS A RAISE CONSIDERING WE ONLY GOT 34.5 CENTS PER MILE WITH THE FORMER OWNERS OF HOUSECALL. I ONLY GET $28 FOR REGULAR VISITS:o BUT $55 FOR ADMISSIONS, $35 FOR RECERTS, D/C AND RESUMPTION OF CARE ARE THE SAME AS REG VISITS.

WHERE IS IT LAW THAT YOU GET 48.5 CENTS PER MILE? ARE YOU SURE THAT YOU DON'T MEAN STATE ALLOWED MILEAGE BEFORE YOU HAVE TO PAY TAX ON YOUR GAS MILEAGE IS 48CENTS? HOPE YOUR'E RIGHT I WILL HAVE TO WHINE TOMMOROW!!!!!!:crying2: :rotfl: :crying2:

The IRS upped their mileage deduction to 48.5 cents on 9/1/05. You can either itemize your business related automobile expenses or take the 48.5 cents per mile.

You can read more about it at: http://www.irs.gov/newsroom/article/0,,id=147423,00.html

I am in Ohio, and I do peds homecare. Flat rate of $16/hr. that's for Private Duty, consecutive hours in one location.

A lot of nurses in our office in the south western part of the US couldn't find the good in Amedisys either. A lot jumped ship, within the same time frame. The reimbursement both in the per visit and mileage is poor. Amedisys dropped the mileage reimbursement when they moved in from $.55 a mile to $.30 then raised it to 42. Such a joke! Some of the newbees thought they were getting a raise! Amedisys won't pay for what you actually drive but what they figure you should have driven which is as little as possible. You will end up working a whole lot of extra hours outside of the housecall with redundant paperwork and not getting paid because it falls under the "per visit pay". I figured out my pay at an average of $15 an hour - gross. Amedisys is also very "write up happy" for "performance improvement" you are set up to fail and rarely is it otherwise. You are expected to be 100% 100% of the time and with all of the "little" rules, it is impossible to be 100% 100% of the time with Amedisys. Amedisys is also management heavy. There are almost as many if not more "supervisors" (in house not field supervisors) than there are field nurses. With the redundant documenation (documenting the exact same things for each visit in Four or more different areas including paper and computer, documenting each different care aspect in different places) information gets lost. Administration refuses to take responsibility so the field staff takes the fall. Keep track of all documentation, miles driven, actual hours worked in a personal file. You may need a file cabinet. With this company the most important thing is CYA CYA CYA CYA if you want to continue in your career as a nurse.
