Home health good for opening doors or nah?

Published

I will be graduating from a relatively prestigious university in December, but I found a home health and hospice job at a great organization with PRIME hours and location...but will this open doors for me? The reason I mentioned that my university was prestigious was not to irritate all you lovely nurses but just to emphasize that I am open to other pathways if there are others that would open more doors.

What do you guys think? Is home health and hospice a good job for a new grad looking to get experience?

What kinds of doors are you hoping to open?

Ideally I would like to work in a clinic or as a school nurse.

There is a very active "School Nursing" section of the site you might want to check out:

I'm not sure hospice nursing would be a logical path to school nursing, but I suppose that any experience is better than no experience.

I think all school districts of the USA should be dying to hire you! You graduated from a prestigious university! GASP! 0=

GASP again 0=

But seriously, get a pediatric medsurg or ICU job if no schools hire you, THEN try and apply again for school nurse positions.

When I was in high school, I was assistant to the school nurses and both were peds ICU Nurses first.
