Home Health Aide Certification for a CNA?

I recently graduated and passed my CNA Red Cross Exam in California. I'm interested in working for Hospice, but I need an HHA certificate. Unfortunately, my school was just CNA.

Does anybody know if there's an online course for HHA that will be accepted by CA? Actually, any kind of course would be helpful since it seems like the adult schools in my area are only offering combined CNA/HHA courses. I already have my CNA.

Look at the course offerings of your local community colleges and call up the ROP office and ask there. There is also a link on the state website. Another idea is to call the local home health and hospice agencies and ask them.

My school was not offering the home health portion when I took the class, but they occasionally do and it's just an extra week tacked on to the end of the CNA class. If this is the case in your area maybe you could sit in for just that last week.

hello audiomitch, you don't mind letting me sharing your thread cos i have some questions to ask about home health aide too.

here my questions hope someone can answer it for me.

can cna work in home health agency, or do we need hha certification to work there?

how long is hha course? i know different school might be different but i just want to get an idea about how many weeks does this course last? also does this course include clinical or not? if no clinical than i can take it online.

Some home health agencies employ CNAs in the home. It is always best to get the HHA certificate so you don't have any problems convincing someone to hire you for the position. Where I used to live, the HHA portion was one week added to the regular CNA course for those who wanted to take it. Different schools have different schedules (and prices). You should always try to get the course at an ROP, adult school, or community college. Private schools are too expensive.

I didn't take my class through the Red Cross, just the exam. Sorry I wasn't more clear.

thanks very much caliotter3, that was very helpful! now i'm planning to take the hha course too but i prefer it online too! this course is only 1 week, that's very great!
