Holmes ADN acceptance letters for Fall 2011

Published

Has anyone heard when the acceptance letters are going out for the Fall 2011 ADN program at Holmes Community College - Ridgeland?

No problem at all. Been there done that and I remember how it feels! Lol. Best of luck to you. If there is anything I can do for you, let me know. My bestfriend applied too and has not received any letters either. I love the Ridgeland faculty and program. During clinicals I have worked with nursing students from MC, UMC, Hinds, and other schools and I have heard all kinds of things about their teachers and programs. I am glad I am at Holmes, but of course I would have gone somewhere else too just to get in.

I'm hoping that since I haven't received anything yet that it is a good sign.

Yeah I've never heard anything negative about the Holmes nursing instructors. That's why I prefer Holmes over Hinds. I'll go to Hinds if I have to but I don't want to if that makes sense.

I am currently in the ADN program at Holmes in Ridgeland. I LOVE LOVE LOVE it here. I asked the director about the acceptance for fall 2011, she said over 200 letters have been sent out this week to those who definitely did not get in. There are 192 left for consideration for 50 spots in Ridgeland and 60 in Grenada. Does that help you guys? Anything else I can help you with?

Yes...You can tell them to let me in! haha! Well, I am guessing it's a good sign that I haven't gotten a rejection letter??? Do you know what "specifics" they seem to consider most important when making their decisions???

HA HA... Me too! Tell them to let us in.

Ok I see your earlier post now...so it is SO good to know that letters and rubbing elbows doesn't seem to be what gets us in. Oh I think I am MORE nervous now! haha Thanks for your input @amandagayle!

Glad to help. You all will have to reply to thread and let me know if you get accepted! :nurse:

I know that the ACT is important, GPA, and the pre-reqs are important. I don't know what they truly want though. It should be so hard to become a nurse and help ppl. I have applied for so many years and I believe that eventually I will see: Congratulations, you have been selected for the fall 2011 Associates Degree Class. Our manditory oriention will be held on....... I would lay in the middle of the floor and kick in circles with joy. That letter is coming to all of this year I just know. I saw an old post where some students were waiting for letters just like us and most of them were accepted. I hope that those letters can be mailed out next week. I wish that we could go to a site and type in our student id number and see our results of whether we were accepted or not. Perhaps they will upgrade to that technology in the late future.:nurse:

Thanks for sharing Amanda. How is the work load? And is there any advice you can give on how to be a successful nursing student and pass! Is there any preparations that we could do to help increase our chances of ADN success before getting accepted into a program? :p How are clinicals? And what kind of check off skills have you learned in the program already. I would like to look on youtube at some demo videos to have an idea of skills that RNs have to know.

Hey HealthyFuture,

Thanks for your response and your prayer. :)

What were the years and the dates for those years...if you don't mind me asking?

from 2007-2010.

It is definitely a whole different world from "regular" classes. I have made good grades my whole life without a lot of study. NOT the case now. I highly recommened the Success books, Fundamentals Success for sure. Nursing tests are so different from the way you have ever been tested. That alone threw many of us off. For example a question may give 4 right answers as choices. You have to be able to look at all the information provided and deduce the most right right answer. When I first started, I did horrible on them, but once you get used to it, you do much better.

You are going to have to be dedicated for sure. It is not extremely hard but you have to be willing to read and study. The teachers aren't going to spoon feed you the info. First and Third semesters are reported to be the hardest. Second and Fourth are more laid back and have less content load. (this is at Holmes, I don't know about other schools.)

First semester check offs were manual BP, physical assessment, giving shots, inserting Foleys and NG tubes. This semester was blood draws and IV's.

Clinicals are my favorite part. You get to do the skills which makes it stick in your head much better than reading it in a book. I have worked at UMC, UMMC, Baptist, St D, St Catherines, and local events in the community. I have done everything from L&D to surgery.

I know they say that a target ACT of 25 is best to be at to get in. I do know of a 21 in my class though. Other than that, pre-reqs and a good GPA is really all you can do to get an edge.

Hey anyone got any word yet?

Not yet...still patiently waiting. Have you heard any news from the school about sending out anymore letters or from anyone that has applied about whether they've received a letter or not?
