Holidays at your job

How does working holidays at your job work? At my facility you are put into a rotation to work one major and 2 minor holidays a year. It never seems to work that way for some people though....

As with anything there are always people that are willing to do their share and those that aren't. Since I don't have kids and am incredibly interested in the holiday pay rate I'm always on board for working extra so it kind of has a way of working out.

we self scheduled so when the holiday blocks came into play - meaning the summer holidays memorial/ july 4/ labor day and then thanksgiving/x-mas/new year you had to schedule yourself for one in a block. Of course this had some people always choosing to work one specific holiday - which unless it caused a problem never was an issue. The childless and non celebrating nurses would almost always take the x-mas day shift so that was never a problem.

We have a holiday rotation... meaning you work every other holiday (ie I'd work thanksgiving, off Christmas, work New Years). Then the next year, we switch (ie I'd be off thanksgiving, work Christmas, etc)

We have to do 1 major and 2 minors per year. Other "hard-to-fill" days may also count, like Mother's Day, Valentine's Day, Halloween, etc. It's self-scheduling though so you aren't forced into anything you don't want (if all works out well and everyone pitches in which is what seems to happen). There are plenty of people already on board for Christmas Eve, those without kids or with grown kids, so the rest of us with little ones don't have to worry. What wonderful co-workers!

I work night shift so my holiday this year is Wednesday 11/26. I get off early Thanksgiving morning, catch up on some sleep and then off to dinner with family (someone else is cooking, thank goodness!)

the switching of the holidays was always what everyone thought.

Well this year is a bust. One of my over night shift coworkers was scheduled last year on christmas eve. She did not complain and figured everyone does their turn. Well she is scheduled again this year and when she asked the manager responsible for the schedule all she got was "well I could not locate last year's schedule and you would just have to switch with someone"

What?!

A few other issues too on top of that. Some people are not even scheduled to work a holiday.

Even bigger What?!
