history class for a pre-req to get a BSN?

Published

do you need to take a history class in order to get a BSN degree?

what other classes did you guys take as far as all your pre reqs went?

Specializes in School Nursing.

For BSN in Texas- you need to be complete in all core ('basics') classes including:

Comp 1& 2 (6 hours)

US History 1&2 (6 hours)

Physical Science (6-8 hours)

Math (3 hours)

Humanities (3 hours)

Behavioral science (3 hours)

Government 1 & 2 (6 hours)

Speech (3 hours)

Fine Art (3 hours)

Computer Apps (3 hours)

These are basically the Freshman and Sophomore year of any BA/BS program. Of course for BSN you need classes additional to this including Micro, A&P 1 & 2, Chem, (two of these can be used to satisfy the Physical Science requirement for a BS, I believe) Nutrition, Stats, Lifespan Psych, and sometimes others.

Specializes in ICU / PCU / Telemetry / Oncology.

You will want to check with the BSN programs that you are considering. Every program I have seen requires different prereqs. A&P and microbiology however are the only courses that they ALL have in common. None of the schools I am considering require history as a prereq.

As the previous poster mentioned, it just depends on the program. I took "US History to 1865" and it would have been accepted at all 3 schools that I looked into. I think it fullfilled the Liberal Arts and Sciences electives, and maybe even something else but I can't recall now what that may have been.
