Just saw this. If this is true then things are looking great:
Yes. I was given a tentative offer about a month and a half ago pending all of the paper work and pre-employment physical. I went into to talk with HR today and get fingerprints and she told me that due to the hiring freeze she can not tell me when I will be able to start work at th VA and all we can do is wait at this point. Nurses and all medical professionals are being affected. She said she had to call other nurses, docs ... from other states and tell them the news and they weren' t happy but, it's out of their hands right now. Super frustrating and disheartening.
I don't know if this applies to all VA locations, however, I do know that the Southern California VA employees received a memo regarding the hiring freeze. Please note, I am not employed there, a friend of mine employed with the VA provided the update. So I don't have specific details.
The memo indicated that if you received a job offer prior to January 22, 2017, HR can continue with your on-boarding process. There is also a list of "exempted range of occupations from the hiring freeze". I was told that nurses are included in the exempted positions. I hope that helps.

Anyone in the process of boarding to the VA know how the latest freeze affects their job offer? Scheduled verbally for orientation weeks away, but know I'm wondering if I should give up, or keep my hopes up for the positive.
