Hi everyone!!
I just got hired at HCGH as a new grad and I am looking to move to the Columbia area. I don't think I am ready to buy anytime soon, but does anyone know of any nice/safe areas to look for apartments? Or any specific apartments? Thank so much!!

From where are you moving? I used to live in the apts across from Merriweather, corner of Broken Land and Hickory Ridge Rd. I forget the name, starts with an S. Nice apartments, some crappy neighbors. The Avalon next to it looks nice too. Apartments are expensive in Columbia. You might want to try renting a condo from someone. Or getting a roomate if finances are an issue. There are some nice ones on Little Patuxent, back where it loops around. Or you can rent my basement and pay me one meellyon dollars! :rotfl:
I'll be working at HCGH as a student (new grad next year!)
Congrats!!

I just got hired as a new grad for HCGH on 4 south! I moved from out of state so I was not too familiar with the area. Columbia was too expensive (but would have been convenient since my boyfriend and I both work there). We tried Ellicott city which was close but some areas were a little sketchy. We ended up in Owings MIlls (30 minutes away) but its cheaper. We plan on trying to move to Columbia next year. Congrats on the job-maybe I will see you in the hospital.

I live in Catonsville- which if you ask me is just as nice as Columbia/Ellicott City and a whole heck of a lot cheaper. Howard County for the most part is expensive. I used to live in both EC and Columbia...Columbia I didn't like ( too crowded) and I liked Ellicott City but rent started to get WAYYY too expensive. I own my home...but I know rent by me for a 2 BR is about $900 a month.
Anyway..congrats on getting a job at HCGH! That is where I would eventually like to work...b/c I really don't want to work in Baltimore. Out of curiosity...can you give me a rough idea of what your starting wage is?
