I am a new nurse at an Adult Daycare and I want to hang a bulletin board in our center with pictures of our clients and list their names (first names only), age, where they were born, number of children, hobbies, prior work history, etc..
But is this against HIPAA? I didn't want to get in trouble with the State on this one.
Any advice is greatly appreciated!

It doesn't sound like you would be sharing protected health information (PHI), so I think you'd be in the clear with HIPAA. I'd just make sure that the client and family are okay with participating.

Our facility has them sign a consent form upon admission saying that we can/can not do things like this. Also we can celebrate birthdays, ect. so there will not be a violation.

We have a wall next to the front entrance of our dialysis facility with pictures and names of our pt's and the entire company is encouraged by corporate to do this in all of thier clinics. I dont see an issue as long as the pt has no objections.

HIPAA is all about medical history information, but you should still get the residents'/families' consent before doing this. There are people who do not like their birthdays, etc. advertised.

it might be against Hipaa because by telling anyone that a person is a resident (by displaying the picture) is technically giving out information. But I bet with a release form you can do it. It sounds like a great idea.
