Hello all,

I thought I would start a thread for those of us applying to HCC's Spring 2013 nursing program. I am a Veterinary Technician/stay at home mom. I'm gathering everything for my application and hoping to drop it off at HCC soon. The deadline isn't until 6/1 but they recommend turning it in at least 30 days in advance. I'm a current HCC student. I was planning on applying for Fall this year, but am now expecting a little girl to arrive in July so spring it is! My pre-req GPA is 3.86 (all A's and 1 B), I'm hoping that this is good enough to get me a spot in the program for DM evening classes. Good luck to all!

Hi everyone! hope you all are having a great winter break before we start our journey in nursing. Can anyone please tell me what type of stesthscope we need and what are really comfterble shoes for clinicals? Thank you!

Hey Plant City classmates, check your Blackboard- our class is open & Professor Crews left an announcement. Yay!

Does anyone know if we have to have a Polio booster? I had my immunizations done and it asks if you had a childhood series and I did. The doctor left the last booster date blank and certified background rejected it for that.

You do not need an additional booster. The doctor just needs to check the box that you received them. Email [email protected] if you continue to have issues with it, she can resolve it with cb.

Does anyone have the link to the facebook group, I'm not allowed to do private messages on here and I wanted to join. I'm in the DM am class and my name is Brian Yacker.

Also, this may seem like an uncomfortable question to ask, but is it frowed upon to put an application in for another program at HCC to have as a standby in case nursing doesn't work out either by failing out or just deciding it's not for you? If that were to happen, I'd want to move into something else sooner rather than later. I might do fine in nursing overall, but I just like to always be prepared for the worst just in case.

Most of the stuff I'm reading for clinicals is very interesting so far, preventing infections, aspetic technique (I've been an IV RX tech for ten years so that part is review!). I got the books downloaded on my kindle fire (it doesn't just work on iPads like the lady at orientation said).

Side note, the lady at the place that makes our badges says that their shutting down for two weeks for the holidays, so if you have an order pending, they'll ship it out the week before classes start!

I sent you a friend request, once you approve it I can add you to the group. I know people send out multiple applications to different programs at one time. However, I do not think that they do it while enrolled in one already. The HS department will notice you're in nursing already and probably question your intentions. I would not apply before you know that you will be leaving the program.

FYI - if you are doing Southbay Hospital clinicals, you WILL be going to Brandon in the future, so yes you need to fill out the paperwork.

If you have some money to spare, the best stethoscope is Littmann brand. And the best shoes you can find are Alegria. I have worked in a hospital for 2 years now and would have died without my Alegria shoes. However clinicals aren't 12 hours, so almost any shoes will really be fine.

does anyone know if the professor of dale mabry afternoons has posted anything up on blackboard? Thanks

Is anyone else scheduled to take the CPR class at HCC Dale Mabry on Monday, January 7th? I am scared that I'm taking it too late. I know it will probably take some time to get my CPR card afterward, but I'm hoping they'll give me something after the class stating that I've taken the class and am just waiting for my card. Does anyone else know? I've emailed Julie Herrin, but she's out of the office until mid-week next week.

Does anybody know if the port wine jacket is required? Did anyone find out if port wine is the same as wine? The lady at the uniform store told me it was but I'm not sure. Also, regarding shoes, I can't get a clear idea about what type I'm allowed to wear? Am I allowed to wear anything with laces? Thanks
