Hello all,
I thought I would start a thread for those of us applying to HCC's Spring 2013 nursing program. I am a Veterinary Technician/stay at home mom. I'm gathering everything for my application and hoping to drop it off at HCC soon. The deadline isn't until 6/1 but they recommend turning it in at least 30 days in advance. I'm a current HCC student. I was planning on applying for Fall this year, but am now expecting a little girl to arrive in July so spring it is! My pre-req GPA is 3.86 (all A's and 1 B), I'm hoping that this is good enough to get me a spot in the program for DM evening classes. Good luck to all!

Did you send your application in with a check? Because that was the only way that I was able to verify that HCC received my application by checking my bank account and seeing that they cashed my check.
I sent a money order in because (of course- fantastic timing) I ran out of checks! If I would have known they would take forever to confirm they received my docs I would have waited two more days to receive my checks in the mail to send one to use as proof of delivery. Oh well, all this anticipation and worrying will just make the victory of being accepted (hopeful) all the sweeter. :)
Also I've been reading different posts in All Nurses about new grads and their sad experience with older nurses ..it is quite discouraging, hopefully it is an exception rather than rule. Hope everybody is having a good summer.
I've been looking for posts about this sort of thing because I figured it happened a lot. Where did you find this? I have had similar experiences with the nurses I work with at my job. I'm an accountant right now and some of the RN's I've shared my goals with have been nothing but downers. They complain about their jobs, how tired they are of patients, etc...they also try to discourage me from pursing my RN license. They're just so burnt out with patient care it's sad. I PRAY I never become one of them...I really love people and love to help people I can't imagine growing tired of it. Plus with the demand in healthcare there are plenty of fields to venture into, if you feel yourself growing tired of one you can always take more courses/request more experience in different departments. As of now I plan to become a CCRN and work in trauma/ICU. I'm sure life in that aspect of the job never gets dull!
Just curious what a SASE postcard is? I personally dropped off all my transcripts and the application 5/22. I called to check on if my transcripts are posted and of course they haven't been yet I am PRAYING that a 3.76 is high enough to get in! I can't wait around another 6 months if it isn't

Sprmomof4 -- by SASE postcard I meant Self Addressed Stamped Envelope which is the usual term for, well, a SASE envelope to return to us. I was just applying the SASE because had I wrote SASP who knows if anyone would have gotten it.
Anyway though in the handbook it said that if we wanted we could send a SASE postcard they'd send back to you acknowledging receipt of your documents... if you mailed it I suppose.

Sorry for not being more precise. That $4K number I threw out was just me factoring tuition only, and not including the 21 hours of prereqs we all have already taken.
I approximate $100/credit, and our degree is 4 classes x 10 credits each for $4K, plus an extra 2 credit class I think... so really $4200.
Keep in mind the whole ASN is 63 credits I want to say but we've already done 1/3 of it (21 hours prereqs) that is over, done with, and paid for already-- that $7700 you saw probably factors in cost for prereqs too, if I had to guess, since they are trying to quote the cost of the entire degree from start to finish, I'll bet.
