Hello all,

I thought I would start a thread for those of us applying to HCC's Spring 2013 nursing program. I am a Veterinary Technician/stay at home mom. I'm gathering everything for my application and hoping to drop it off at HCC soon. The deadline isn't until 6/1 but they recommend turning it in at least 30 days in advance. I'm a current HCC student. I was planning on applying for Fall this year, but am now expecting a little girl to arrive in July so spring it is! My pre-req GPA is 3.86 (all A's and 1 B), I'm hoping that this is good enough to get me a spot in the program for DM evening classes. Good luck to all!

I just check My Documents and the only one's for now showing received are: Consent Form, Health Sciences Proc. Fee $53, and Nursing Application Form. So still waiting on HCC Application, High School Transcript and Nursing Prerequisites.

...

DJ41106: I have the same exact things showing up now as you. But what I don't get is that my High School transcript, and Nursing Prerequisites were submitted with the same envelope/package as everything else they do have (the $53 check, etc) which is kind of bizarre. And the HCC Application? How was one not submitted by me (and you, and everyone else) if we have received admission letters with our logons for Hawknet, etc?

Very strange, I think...

P.S. Unfortunately Stats does not apply for the Math requirement. I wish it did, my A in Stats would have beat my B in College Algebra. Boo.

The evaluation of docs is done by different departments, that's why some docs don't show yet. And nursing prereqs if they were taken

in different colleges will be evaluated in 6-8 weeks and only then they will show up.

I think it is very confusing, because it shows " docs don't received, need asap."..they should change it and say docs are received and being evaluated...so people won't stress. I'm sure every single one of us was confused about it.

Hello everyone. It is hard to believe that application period is closed for spring 2013. For those who still show "nursing prereqs required asap", they told me that it should show up in 6-8 weeks after application period is closed. So it will be the end of July probably before we can see it.

The wait is long and boring, so I'm taking more classes to keep myself busy. The fall thread is talking about receiving some letters from Brandon hospital offering to pay tuition in exchange of 2 years of work for them. What do you all think about it?Is it worth doing? Seems like a good idea?

The only thing I didn't get is who is eligible to apply? Something about working force agency???

Also I've been reading different posts in All Nurses about new grads and their sad experience with older nurses ..it is quite discouraging, hopefully it is an exception rather than rule. Hope everybody is having a good summer.

As for the tuition payment thing at the Brandon hospital, if you're referring to what I think you're referring to from that Fall thread, I want to say someone pointed out that if you break that contract, they value it at something like $13K that you have to repay as that is the value they place on those two years. But keep in mind that tuition for the entire ASN would be $4K and change. So balancing those two numbers, it's overkill sort of in the event that say, you come to despise that place of work after the first 6 months and want to run like hell away from it. You're stuck for 18 months after that; and no one wants to be stuck.

There is one perk I thought though... for those two years you could have guaranteed employment and income which, in turn, would pay for the BSN that you could do part time over those two years. Get in, get out, leave after those 2 years for someplace else that will hire you for more money once you have a BSN, perhaps.

My 2 cents.

My Documents are not showing anything but old Financial Aid Forms...and the only pre-requisites I have are with HCC so there's nothing to verify/transfer. Surely if my application wasn't delivered I'd know by now right? I sent it in the beginning of May...:frustrated: :uhoh21:

Did you hand deliver it on campus to the Admin building? If so, surely they must have it. I mailed mine in (I live in Orlando ATM) and got the postcard I included back acknowledging receipt, so surely if you hand delivered it there's no way they didn't get it, I'm sure of it...

No I mailed it, but I should have delivered it to the campus. I emailed a lady in Admissions for the nursing program and she told me that it will take 6-8 weeks after deadline to show up in the system so not to worry. Easy for her to say lol...if it somehow got misplaced I will be waiting all this time for nothing. In the meantime...I'll continue to stalk WebAdvisor.

Stalk the Admissions/Nursing offices in person instead! :)

I doubt they'll give me any information, they tend to be tight-lipped about anything to do with the program. HCC has never been very organized or easily accessible in the 3 years I've been attending. The only plus is the low tuition cost/cost of the program. I was accepted to the RN program at Everest and at Fortis last year but when they told me the cost of their program ($40,000-52,000) I politely declined, lol.

LOL you can get a DNAP for that! That's obscene, why schools charge that much is beyond me.

Did you send your application in with a check? Because that was the only way that I was able to verify that HCC received my application by checking my bank account and seeing that they cashed my check.

Hey, Gradius, where did you get 4k number tuition cost for program? The manual says it around 7700k plus books, plus lab fees

plus uniform etc. So its about 12k. I like your number better though.
