Hillsborough Community College-Fall 2014

U.S.A. Florida

Hello everyone,

So my dream since I can remember has been to become a nurse; however, it seems as if it will never happen. I recently finished my pre-requisite courses to apply to the fall semester of the HCC nursing program. While I did not get any C's I made mostly B's :blink:earning A's in two classes and one lab. I realize this is not good enough since it puts my GPA at around a 3.38. Since I did not fail any of my classes, I don't believe I will be able to retake them. Is there any possible way to retake them? Or any way to increase my GPA since they mainly look at the pre-requisite courses? If not, what other options do I have for becoming a nurse? If anyone is out there who could offer any help it would be greatly appreciated. I will submit my application regardless but I don't have any high hopes of getting accepted, if there is anyway to increase my chances I would be so grateful to find out!

Any feedback yet?

@silvach I think everyone is pretty overwhelmed with info and having to studying so far lol but 1st day was exciting :) do you know when you're going to to start receiving letters?

Lilprmami hey thank you for responding. I figured u guys have been in a crunch. And we should get them any time from now till sept 15th. I asked the advisor today about the letters and she said no one has been accepted yet. Its so frustrating. How do u like the program so much. How much have u found yourself studying so far?

The first week is not so bad studying wise but its going to get more intense since we're going to start doing full body assessments. Our professor gave us the weekly assignments for each week and I feel like I'm going to have NO life. But that was expected lol

I would start practicing medication calculation if anything to get a head start if you haven't done so already

Wow thank u for sharing. Sounds like u have ur hands full. I wish you the very best in the program. Sounds like your instructor is very organized. Which class did u get? Im going for afternoon 1 to 4 at DM campus

For sure and Im in DM afternoons :) I like it a lot actually for my schedule because I get to sleep in a little especially after pulling an all nighter

That is exactly why I wanted the 1 to 4 lmao. Im a night person for sure, and I study best at that time with my coffee at hand. Are you taking any additional classes aside from nursing?

Bahahaha! And I'm just taking one for now and I chose an easy one out of the ones I need for my bachelors so I don't overwhelm myself. It's just an american government class which I'm taking online. Probably won't do that again though for my future semesters just because I'm already juggling a part time job in my schedule

Thats what I was going to do ... I was going to take speech with my first semester. And over summer do my spanish 1 and 2. Then when fall hits I was going to try computer. Then of course none my third and 4th semester of nursing

Would anyone be able to post the lab hours for DM campus, please?

Lab hours for Plant City are 8AM-4PM Monday-Thursday. Not too sure about the weekends.

Can anyone already in the RN program at HCC be able to tell me if it's okay to have stethoscope other then black? (Ex.pink)

Or do they only allow you guys to use black ones?

Any color stethoscope is fine. Several people in my class have neon pink.
