My pocket diagnosis book came in today. I hope I can learn something over the summer.

My three just got here yesterday. That Potter/Perry book looks intense! Starting on that this weekend (after I get a 400 word essay done for English, lol).

I am all done with all of my other classes... And then some... For my ADN. I will have to take another class each sem to keep full time status, but the won't be hard ones - believe me!!!

You're lucky that you're done! And I hear you on those easier classes, lol. I guess I lucked out...my scholarship doesn't require me to be full time, so I can just take the nursing courses and not add anything else (I'm terrible about balancing classes...so this will be a transition for me, lol...I usually only take 6 credits a semester. EEEK!) I was going to put off ENC1102 until next summer but decided to do it over the spring and well, I had an issue, so now I have to take it this summer to grade replace the F I got. GRRR!! I think after I finish this, I'll be done with all of the general credits. Unless something happens and they don't accept my humanities course that I transferred in. Shoot, I should probably go talk to an advisor about that...darn it.

I just bought an older version of the Potter/Perry for now...6th edition, I think. It was cheap, around $8. Didn't want to spend too much. I'm sure we'll be using a newer version but I didn't want to spend the money and then have them release an even newer book or something. They like to do that a lot...

I'm excited to start buying uniforms, shoes, a stethoscope...all of that snazzy stuff. Hurry up orientation!!!

And yes, Brandee!! What books did you order? Now I can start ordering more since it's official. :)

sweet!! thanks k!

And congrats on getting in classmate!!!!! :D

No problem! And thank you! I think I'm still floating on my cloud, lol. I'm so excited to be in with all of you!! I was going to be pretty upset if I had to wait until spring!

I just got the 12th edition pocket nurses guide that the gal suggested in a previous post. It won't be in our big box O books, and ended up being about $15 after shipping. I already have my sthethoscope, I got it as motivation when I first decided on nursing school! It's an ADC Adscope. I chose it off of reviews and price, and a MA friend said it had really nice sound. If I remember correctly it ended up around $40. I also snagged 2 pairs of bandage scissors for cheap some time last year.

What website did you find the potter/perry book? There are so many websites!! HELP!!

Found it on AMAZON!!

You all will be getting a new version of the Potter/Perry book in your package this year, mainly because the version for my class, which is the current "new" version (until you all get yours) didn't include the answer key for any of the sample questions. Manufacturer mistake. So the "new" version will be the exact same as our version, except yours will have the answer key in it, while our answer key had to be emailed to us.

I am selling all of my books for $350. That includes everything (potter/perry, med-surg 1 & 2, study guides, strategies book, clinical guides, med-surg SLS access code, drug guide, RNotes pocket guide, calculation book, Kaplan Study Guide, etc). If you buy this, you won't need to buy the package, or any of the supplemental books. The only extras you will need to buy is a nursing diagnosis book and the potter/perry access code. All total will be about $450, which is about a $400 savings.

Study vital signs, infection control, hygiene, health assessment, and wound care. I'll post a little health assessment guide in a bit, as a lot of what is in the chapter just isn't done in the hospital, and you won't be expected to know it. (for instance the weird tuning fork thing, has any doctor/nurse ever done that to you? Lol.)

In the calc book, concentrate on memorizing coversions. The math is pretty simple (the book tries to make it confusing, but it really isn't). Conversions is what will throw you off, you need to know how many pounds in a kg, how many ml's in a tsp, etc. Learn where everything is on a drug label, for instance, generic name, brand name, lot #, etc. Memorize the 6 rights of medication administration...they will drill you on those everytime you have to administer meds. If you have the opportunity to, take the Pharmacology class that HCC offers..over the summer if it isn't too late, or whenever your are able to. It is HUGE help in nursing, in fact, most of my class is taking it over this summer, luckily I took it last year and it was a life saver!

I'll post some sample questions and answers the same time I post a cheat sheet to the health assessment.
