Would anyone else find this irritating? There is a nursing school here in town that is now stating that they won't accept any credits from the community college I am going to. A friend of mine is applying and is extremely upset b/c he worked so hard in his classes. Honestly, I feel like I am getting a great education by my profs. My classes are super hard, and I work so hard to get A's. I think the whole reasoning is they want students to come to their college to get prerequisites. I mean, it doesn't take a genius....hmmm am I going to pay 80 dollars a credit hour or 350 dollars??? I am so mad because they are saying the community college classes are sub-standard, which really makes me FURIOUS. The local University and other colleges teach out of the same books!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I went to a well known university and then when I transferred closer to home to the community college I found the books are the same. I don't think cc is any easier than your average university. There's such a stigma attached to it that makes people label it substandard.

Currently, I am still attending cc and am receiving excellent grades. My classes are hard but the class size is smaller and I feel that the professors care about their students. Also, a common misconception is that teachers at cc have only a BS when they either have a masters or a phd's. The college is also HIGHLY competitive when it comes to nursing.

There have been people who have transferred from their expensive, private universities to apply to the cc because of it's tough standards. That's saying something.

Right now, I'm trying to transfer to a private college and I'm not sure if they will take all my credits. It's a pain because I worked my butt off to get those A's and I really don't want to waste time and money to do it all over again. I don't know if the universities and colleges think that we have recieved less than stellar education and that we need to be re-educated or if it's merely a money thing. It's probably money.

It is sooo frustrating! I have all my pre reqs done for nursing and the thought of taking all those classes over..............wasteful.

I've been to a big university, a private parochial women's junior college, and a community college. Some of the hardest classes I've taken were at a community college. My chemistry class at a community college had seventeen people in it. We wrote a research paper and had to give an in-class presentation on a chemistry related topic. I took organic chemistry at NC State with two hundred and ten kids (yes, kids - the only person older than I was the professor) and it was EASY compared to my Chem I course. My organic tests were multiple choice (even though you had to know what you were doing to get the answer). My Chem I tests were "show your work" - and each portion of the problem was graded.

My O Chem prof taught four hundred students. My Gen Chem instructor? He taught 34.

Some community college courses are probably garbage and are poorly taught. But I've taken a couple of classes at the university level that were equally crappy. I've found that over the years I've retained more information from the smaller classes I've taken (my first two years were at a women's college in Raleigh) than from the upper level classes I took at ECU.

I ended up completing my bachelor's through Excelsior College, and the four tests I took there were harder than sitting in a class!

Universities need to pull their heads out when it comes to community colleges. I think the OP is being dealt a bum hand here.

Yes, that is irritating. It is the same here. Last year was the last year they would accept the A&P course from the college. Anyone who has courses from there have to basically start from scratch. To be honest, the A&P course is more difficult at the university but I don't think it should be -- the teaching just isn't as good or realistic. What is the status of your schooling?

The status of my schooling to answer your question is this: I have a previous BA from a private college, and have been taking pre req's including, A&P, developmental Psych., Nutrition, Micro, and College Algebra all at the community college. All have been incredible yet difficult classes minus Nutrition which is cake to me. I have applied at a private college for an accelerated RN program. They have been more than willing to take all my transfer credits. I should hear something by mid May.

I am more outraged at the college, b/c to me it's like they're saying their the classes I've taken aren't up to par??!!?? What a joke, put me up against any student of theirs and I can bet I know just as much from the classes I've taken. To me, it's snobbery and greed. Most working parents trying to put themselves through school can much more afford community college prices vs university/private college tuition. This is just wrong!

Sunshine, that school doesn't even know or care that you exist.

You are wasting a lot of valuable time being angry at an institution. Granted, it's made up of individuals but really, at the end of the day, who gives a darn what "they" think of your education?

Now go study something.

Well, I guess the reason I am outraged, is b/c I have a friend who just met w/ an enrollment counselor and was told his credits wouldn't be accepted. Yeah, this does tick me off b/c I took these classes with him. As for studying I've already studied a few hours today but thanx for the suggestion;)
