Highland Hospital

I have heard rumors that the first phase of Picayune's hospital will be completed in 2010. I had plans to work in Slidell or Covington when I graduate, but the idea of working right here close to home is very appealing to me.

Does anyone have any idea if this is true? Also what about pay at Highland? It would be really exciting to work at a new hospital that is supposed to have the latest technology.:yeah:

hi ang,

(some new rule says i gotta have so many posts before i can PM ppl now so i'm working on it!)

H.R. at Forrest General told us during orientation that their motto is "soon", and to answer anyone that asks about renovations, new buildings/ technology ect to tell them it will be completed "soon". Personally I don't think it will be ready in 2 years.

The pay at Highland now is crap: 18.50 starting and maybe $0.25 raise a year according to H.R. again (which is the avg. in MS). The pay is much much better in Slidell and worth the extra drive.

...just need one more post LOL...

i wonder how many new positions the new hospital will be accepting?

Wow! That is crappy pay! That's not the $ for other local hospitals is it?

I've gotten flyers from state convention and our college job fair and that seems to be the starting pay state wide- $18.50. I'm sure there's a night and weekend differential and you also have to consider benefits but it's still very low compared to LA and AL pay. Representatives from travel nurse companies told us that MS is where the most travel nurses come from....now wonder.

Well unless Highland gets with the times I will be looking for a job in Louisiana in 2010!

Thanks for the pm kc, it was very helpful
