Hi!

Hi everyone!

Just wanted to stop and say hello, so if I post any replies to messages you will kinda know me!

I am 24, mom of 3. (6,5 and 2!) I live in Winnipeg, Canada, and work in a pharmacy. I am finally ready (mentally, financially and my family is complete!) ready to go back to school! I have chosen to go to college as an LPN. I know I have read a discussion about phasing out LPN's, but has anyone heard anything like that in Canada?

I mailed out all my forms and all necessary documents yesterday...crossing fingers! I know there is a 2 year waiting list at this time, but that's ok... will give me a chance to set aside more money for those pesky bills so I don't leave my SO behind!

I am really nervous and excited... but I am so ready! I am glad I found this site!

Some passions of mine are scrapbooking, stamping and photography and going to concerts! rock baybee! ;)

I hope to get to know some of you! If you want to know anything just ask!

I use a lot of "!" and a lot of "..." :)

Welcome, welcome!!

Phase out LPNs??? I doubt it....latest figures I heard were that there are now more "old people" in Canada than younger.....can't see it happening!

Hopefully for you the wait will not be as long as two years. Some apply to more than one place hoping to get in sooner somewhere else, and some just change their minds. Some of my daughter's friends applied for nursing, were told there was a two year wait, and have ended up going into different fields...

Good luck to you:)

Depends where in Canada you are. Alberta is a great province for LPNs to work in. Full scope and lots of areas to work in, pretty much everything except NICU and ICU is open to us.

BC wasn't so hot, because each health authority utilized LPNs differently and the authority and hospital I worked for were back in the stone ages.

Good luck. Enjoy your leisure time while you have it. And, don't be surprized if the wait isn't two years. People change their minds, government budgets change, etc. I was told I had a one year wait and got in within six months.

Thanks everyone for the welcome!! Thanks for moving my post siri... I just assumed all introductions were to be in that forum!

Well, I am in Winnipeg. If I can get in sooner that would be great. I don't think I will be entirely ready until at the earliest the march start date!

I know that I always see job listings for LPN's on the Human Resources Website. Was just worried reading some of the other posts in other forums I guess!

I really am only applying to this one school, as it's the only one in Winnipeg that does the LPN course. It is not an option for me to move to go to school. I sure hope I get accepted. I am soooo nervous and yet so excited. It is going to drive me nuts waiting and waiting to find out if I get in!

I wish I had a medical termiology workbook... I tried to find one online but haven't really come across anything!

You are welcome, tutusandfrogs. Yes, you were correct about posting in the intro section, but, you had a specific question that was more than likely not going to be answered there.

That is why we are here. To help you. Hope you are enjoying the site.
