Hi. Questions RE. Drexel ACE program

Nursing Students Online Learning

Published

Hi, I'm new here and I have some questions about the ACE program. I was hoping to apply for SP 07 Admission but someone mentioned that the application deadline had passed. I heard they had rolling admissions, is this incorrect? i only need 2 more classes (which i'm taking this fall) and I will be finished my pre-reqs

Second, how competitive is admission to the program. I have so-so grades from my original BS but have a 4.0 in my sciences(19hrs) since returnng to school last fall. Are there exceptions and can this be taken into consideration.

Finally, my last question (for now!) Is there someone specific in the admissions dept i should speak to? I have called and emailed several times to try to meet with someone for some guidance but i'm not getting anywhere. Very frustrating. any advice or info would be soooo apreciated.

By the way, to all of you already accepted to the program, good luck and hopefully i'll be following right behind you.

welcome to allnurses.com! i moved your post to the distance learning forum, for more responses.

good luck!

Hi There - Actually, this probably won't get a lot of responses in the Distance Learning forum since the ACE program is an accelerated BSN program.

I just happened to stop by this particular forum and may have answers to several of your questions!

I just went to an open house at two weeks ago with regard to the ACE program. I am interested in applying for Fall 2007. At that time, they did tell us that the application deadline for Spring 2007 had passed, but they still had some open seats left. They encouraged those who wanted to get in to apply quickly, so you might still have a shot. They said that it's easier to get in for spring instead of fall as most people typically like to start in fall. They accept about 120 people for each fall session and about 80 for the spring.

As for admission criteria, they go solely on your undergrad. gpa. Nothing else. They don't require a personal statement, letter of recommendation, nothing. They want an overall gpa of 2.75. If you don't have that, you need to have a 3.00 in the last 60 hours of coursework completed. That would take into account any pre-requisites that you just finished. They literally start counting back from your most recent class taken until they evaluate your 60 credits.

I would call tomorrow to see if you can still get that application in for spring. I would contact Vanessa Thomas directly. She is the Assistant Director of Admissions. Her telephone number is 215-762-1098 or can be e-mailed at [email protected].

Good luck and let me know how it goes!!!

p.s. just noticed your user name and am wondering what significance the numbers have (just curious - it's my zip code!!!!) (you don't have to answer that if you don't want to - i know i am nosy!)

i'll definately try to contact her tomorrow, thanks for the info.

btw, it's my zip code too!,:) small world. Are you still working on your pre-reqs? which school.

Thanks again for the info, if it doesn't work out for spring, i'll be applying for fall 07 as well. good luck.

Good luck! I'm taking two pre-reqs. right now at Bucks and still need four more after this summer. I already have an accounting degree from from 10 years ago and want to switch things up by going back for nursing. If you don't get in for spring, hopefully we'll both make it in for fall. Let me know how it goes!!!!

Also, when you call ask about their next open house. They have one per month and you really can glean a lot of info from them.

thanks again. I called and spoke to vanessa. we're meeting next week. my gpa isn't going to be high enough so i'll probably have to take some extra classes to bring it up. looks like i wont be able to start until fall either. at least i'd have someone to study with! i'm just so anxious to get finished (or started i guess) have you looked at any other programs?

I haven't really looked into anything else. I know Thomas Jefferson has an accelerated program as well, but it is longer and from what I understand more difficult to get into. I'm really hoping to get into , but if that doesn't happen I'll think of a Plan B at that time. I am also anxious to finally get started. How many classes do you need to get out of the way and what is your other degree in? It would be nice to have someone close by to commisserate with if we both end up going! We'll have to stay in touch!

I still need A&P 2, developmental psych and statistics. but even if i aced all three my GPA for the last 60 hours will only be a 2.94 or something like that and i got the feeling that they are very strict about their GPA requirements. So chances are I'll have to take a few extra classes just bring it up. (I had a REALLY bad semester the year I graduated from WVU and it's pulling my GPA way down)

My BS is in journalism, public relations, so I worked in marketing for 6 years or so but now i'm a very broke personal trainer/student.

hopefully, things will all sort themselves out and who knows, maybe we'll both start in the fall. (it would be nice to have one more relatively care-free summer before giving up every second of free time i have) we'll definately have to stay in touch

Apply as soon as you can - apply online. You can apply without having taken all the pre-req's yet.

good luck!

Hi, this is my first time posting anything... i'm interested in the ace program too, but have 4 more pre-reqs to take after this semester. does anyone know how exactly they calculate your last 60 credits if the credits are coming from a few different schools- do they just add the gpa's from each class and divide by the number of classes that made up the 60 credits or is there some other way to calculate it? also, has anyone gone through the ace program- if so what advice do you have?? thanks

Drexel is not crazy about the gpa and to be honest, i applied 6weeks after the admission deadline last year and i got in. I know ppl who applied in august and started school in september.

About the pre-reqs, i think for the ace students, they'll need you to complete them before you start your nursing classes. Being a co-op student, i've yet to take 2 pre-reqs and i've taken part of nursing 300 and 400. Their argument is they allowed me to go ahead because of my gpa.what i'm trying to say is that if you have a really excellent gpa, they'll make you start if you tell them you are taking the pre-reqs at community or something.

i'll try and take nutrition as soon as i can. the other pre-req might be a battle.
