Hi to all nurses in Recovery

Nurses Recovery

Published

Hi to all nurses in Recovery. I am an addict in Recovery. My RN license is currently suspended until around mid 2009. I could of fought the suspension but I thought why as I have no family responsibilities and not working would give me an opportunity to focus on Recovery. Currently I attend 12 step support with AA. I am in the process of adding to my Recovery toolbox. I noticed that attorneys have additional support groups besides 12 step groups; it's called The Other Bar. Is there anything out there for healthcare professionals? :typing

friend of Bill W. here too :)

I think Dr Bob would be happy to see us fellow professionals taking up our lamps and following in his steps. Feb 24th i will have 1 year sober!! The ism has given me the opportunity to see life as a nurse thru a different set of eyes.

Perhaps contact with the GSO would be warrented, so see if they have info on any nurses in sobriety groups? Might also try stayingcyber.org ?

I am finding many nurses in recovery and we give each other support more in the general sense of the program.

Congratulations Dave on your first year clean and sober. That is a great accomplishment. I know what I made my first year and got that chip, it just made it so much better. I will have my 10 year anniversary in Aiugust of this year and my dh who is also a nurse in recovery will have 10 years in July.

I know this is a old thread but I was hoping I could get it started up again. Hi I am in recovery my last day of use was june 2006 it is going on 4 years of sobriety. I had to work as a cashier for 2 years a nurses assistant for ten months and now i am working as a nurse again. I have been completly honest with my DON. I really did not have much of a choice. its a small town and i had lost many jobs due to my use of pain pills. i am now off everything and my life is managable. I never want to go back to that way of life again .always waiting to hear my name get called to the office and know any minute I could loose my job. I rtemeber what it felt like to go home to my family and lie about why i lost another job. now all i saw was pride when i told them i got a nursing job again. I would love to hear some of your positive recoveries,or maybe even told some negative stories to remind me where i dont want to end up.

I too am in recovery as well. I will have 6 mos on 3-9-10. I voluntarily went to treatment. By the grace of god I am so grateful that I went. I was hanging on to life by a thread and had I not went to treatment I would of lost everything. In Mt we have what you call the Nurses Assistance Program. I was not even going to tell them, but one of my employees turned me in while I was in treatment. I never did go to work drunk ever. I was hungover at times. To make a long story short, the board did not put me on probation or anything, other than to comply with the NAP program. Good to see all the nurses in recovery. Love you all.

Peace,

Dez:)

Hi to Dez !

Keep up all the great work ! I too was hanging on by a tiny thread watching my life crumble around me.

Get all the information you need about this disease. It's extremely sad that many health care providers,

mental health providers, insurance companies, and boards of nursing have only the amount of knowledge

that could fill a large thimble. It keeps getting better as long as you keep your recovery first above all else !

Michelle :)
