I'm Jen, I'm in San Antonio and will be attending SAC this fall for my prerequisites, shooting for Fall of '10 for the nursing school. I'm an almost 30 year old, SAHM of two girls, a little nervous about juggling it all. Just wanted to introduce myself!

Hi Jen. I am currently abot to enter my 4th and final level of nursing school at SAC. I have 4 children, a husband, and a job that I have juggled through out this process. It can be done I promise. Oh and I am 35 so I know all about being an "older" student when you start. If you have any questions or just want to talk feel free to PM me.
Thank you! I have about a billion questions! As soon as I get to my 15 posts, I'll shoot you a PM. It's so encouraging to hear that someone is there, doing it. I *know* I can, but it feels so big right now!
I know it seems overwhelming and believe me sometimes I still feel that way too> I just remind myself regularly that it will all be worth it in the end. I will be more than happy to answer some of those questions you have and help in any way that I can.
Ok, I have a few quick ones. How hard is it to get into the Nursing School at SAC? Where are the clinicals done? What sort of uniform do they require?
I have a ton more, but I won't overload you...yet! I really, really appreciate your help!

Welcome!! I will begin NS in August. I am 36 and have a daughter that is 19, also going to college. So, I feel lucky that at least my daughter is old enough to take care of herself -but I do still worry about her!! I spend most of my time studying at school because home is just a wee too loud for me to concentrate. I wish you well on your journey and you can make it because many before you have! Stay positive :heartbeat:nurse::heartbeat
First off it is a competitive program to get into but I got in on my first try. I made sure that my grades in my pre-reqs could not be over looked. The clinical sites depend on who your clinical instructor is, each instructor has an affiliation with a hospital. I have had clinicals at Methodist and Baptist hospitals as well as the NIX mental health hospital. Some instructors go to Santa Rosa and University too. And the uniforms are white and are only worn for clinical days. When you get to where you need the scrubs I will let you know where you can get discounts on them.
Cool thanks! I'm so nervous/excited about this! So silly, I know. I REALLY appreciate you answering my questions!
I am glad to hear you are excited. I love being in nursing school because I know in my heart that I am meant to be a nurse. I am glad that I can be of some help to you, I know that it would have been nice to have some insight into nursing school before I jumped in. I am currently a nurse extern at one of the local hospitals and it is reafirming for me that I am going into the field I am meant to be in. I hope you find as much joy in it as I am.
