Hi I am Tracy if you all remember me

Nurses General Nursing

Published

Hi my name is Tracy, I came on here about a month ago. I had just been recently diagnosed with seizures. Well, I tried nursing school only for afew days. The AED's I am on Keppra 500/MG BID, made me like a zombie, tired and dizzy. I have basically no memory at this point The class was so excellorated. I had to postpone until next entry fall 2005. I am very upset about all of this. My diagnosis couldn't have come at a worse time. I worked so hard to get into the Exellorated program and now I have to wait a whole year. I just wanted to say hello to you all. You all gave me a real warm welcome when I first joined. I am just really sad that the timing with everything was so "off" Well thanks to all of you who welcomed me in the beginning. I am wondering if once my seizures are controlled if I will be "fit" to be a nurse. Well maybe not home health care. WEll see. Talk to you all soon. Tracy

Hi Tracy

I remember your first letter. I feel so bad for you. However, maybe this will work itself out. Get settled on your meds, get the seizures under control and then try school.

I do actually know nurses who have a seizure problem. They have there seizures under control. Once you have control, continue your plan. Take things slow, don't get yourself too stressed at any time; remember, things usually happen for a reason.

let us know from time to time how you are doing.

Good Luck

Mary Ann

Mary Ann, thank so much for the nice reply. I know everything happens for a reason. I am a firm believer in that. I just can't see why yet!! Well this is hard for me and thanks for asking me to post and let you know how I am . I felt like I couldn't come back here until school starts next year. When I had a meeting with the nursing administrator, they told me they would "keep my file open" so I dont' have to go threw the entrance exam, interviews and references all over again. That was a relief. I was so excited to start my journey. I hope to still keep in contact with you all. Thanks for listening. Tracy

Tracy - thanks for the update. Just keep plugging along and get your condition settled. I am sorry it happened, but it will probably help you in your nursing as you will be very compassionate to others going through similar trauma. My advice is this - do some prereading of basic nursing texts to give you a leg up when you start. Maybe when things are more settled you could volunteer or get a job in a medical facility. That exposure would also help. I think you will be a wonderful nurse. Best of luck to you.

i pray for you to get better.

i think your body need to adjust to changes: meds, disease, how you cope with it, and you will see it will get better only.

my sister had moderate seazures when she was 4 years old. it took her about 7 years to get over it. she was taken prescribed meds, had regular check-ups, and we as her family really were involved to do the best for her. she is now in her 20th and what i can say she is healed but still some sort of disturbances coming back time to time: headache, tiredness, anxiety.

i know she was relatively young but what the piont is , when she started her school years on regular time she was on top of it. believe me, she was really As student, and even there was time when she had to stop , slow down, she just let recover herself first and picked up later what she missed.

i am happy they let you apply next year. you have some goal to look up and it will keep you stronger every day. do not give up. God knows what He is doing. there is always CAUSE and CONSEQENCE.

good bless your heart, :)

Thank you all so very much. Your posts are very uplifting and this sad time for me. I do have all of my level on textbooks so I will be looking into the basic nursing book that is like 3,000 pages long. That is a great idea. Also I think donating some time at a health care facility would be great. For now, Drs orders are that I cannot drive for 90 days post last seizrue. My last was on my birthday 9/9. The day after my first day of school. Your words of encouragement really make me hopeful that this is just a bump in the road. Talk to you soon and keep posting to me, It lifts me up. Tracy

Hi Tracy, Sorry to here of your seizures. Don't give up! There is a big need for nurses. I know it will be a struggle but keep looking ahead. My son recently had to go see a neurologist, and has to go through all the test for seizures again for the fourth time and he is 10 years old. the neuro thinks he is having seizures and is going to put him on meds also. good luck with your meds and hope you can returns to nursing school soon..

Thank you very much for the kind reply. I am not going to know for a while if I will ever maintain Seizure control. I do hope so. Now I am wondering if Medical Assisting would be a good route for the time being. Not to offend anyone, but I know MA's have alot better schedules and the workload isn't so heavy. I want into this feild, just not confident LPN will be in the near future. Can anyone advise? Any Medical Assistants out there. Thanks again, Tracy

Dear Tracy

This is really wonderful to hear. Just know that I'm sure everyone was rooting for you and praying, as well!! I'm really excited to hear that you have started nursing school.

Have you worked out your meds? I guess your seizures must be in control. Are you again in the accelerated program?

Good Luck!!

Mary Ann

HI Mary ann thanks so much for the speedy reply. I am still in the advanced program. It is very fast and hard, but I will accomplish so much in the next year it is all worth it!

My meds were actually just increased do to some non stop finger spasms last week. My neuro likes to play it safe. But knock on wood no Grand Mals so I seem to have adjusted to the meds well. I look forward to being a part of this community. Take care, Tracy:wink2:

Tracy,

Congratulations! You are an inspiration to those of us who are planning to go to nursing school. You have overcome a great obstacle. Many of the challenges that some of us complain about are nothing compared to what you have done!

I wish you the best! :balloons:
