I've read a couple other posts like my situation ....is it really that common to harass ex employees because they're that desperate for nurses ?!
Working for the agency was horrible ...I got a new job in the hospital. Decided to give 1 week notice which they wouldn't accept and talked me into 2 weeks because I'd be "inconveniencing the clients and we don't have a back up for you." You can read my other posts to get the whole deal.
Turns out I needed to start things with my new job earlier than anticipated so I didn't complete the whole 2 weeks.
Blocked their email and calls because I knew they'd bug me after I told them I wouldn't be back just like they did when I tried to give a 1 week notice before.
But now the clinical manager TEXTS me at 11 PM at night to tell me it's in my best interest as a nurse with a license to call her tomorrow?!
What is this? Can't I be done with the place? Whether I quit at a months notice or 1 day notice this feels like harassment to bother me after I am no longer associated with the agency. The fact that they're under staffed and can't keep nurses is NOT my problem.
always refer to your employee handbook for the correct written notice you need to provide. Otherwise they are well in their right to report you to your board for abandonement. I have worked in places I absolutely hated and worked right down to the full 30 days I had to give, made sure all my documentation was done . badge , keys turned in etc because I wanted to move on with life. A friend who is also a PT left without providing proper notice and the nursing home reported her to the therapy board because they said they left her high and drive without a replacement and the caseload suffered. Management don't give a flying fig about employees these days and they will make up a sitatuion where one did not exsist all because you choose not to work there anymore. Its not worth your license. Always work the full time unless they tell you can leave earlier and then you get that crap in writing.
I don't see how they could get you for patient abandonment, as long as you have not accepted or agreed to see any patients that you will be unable to see. However, I'm not too familiar with abandonment in home health. You told them you were quitting. They probably are just trying to scare you into staying a while longer.
*Also, giving notice does not equate with abandonment. I can tell my hospital tonight that I will not be back ever, and that is not abandonment. A notice is a sign of respect, not a requirement (other than a requirement for future jobs to consider hiring you, haha).
But TEXTING me ...and at 11 pm at night? C'mon ....
EXACTLY. Calling outside of normal business hours about something that HR or a day manager can call about with a vague statement like this is harassment. If there was really something they needed you to fix i.e. charting etc...they could leave you a message stating what they need, or send you a letter. Calling at 11 pm with a vague statement like that was meant to scare you and leave you to stay awake all night scared and worrying. If you tried to give notice and they would not accept then manipulated to get their way then you did not abandon your patients -- document everything, put dates/times/specific conversations and with who just in case. Maybe text her back and tell her straight up that she can leave you a message during daytime hours, send an email or write a letter about what exactly she means and if she isn't willing to do this then you'll just add that to your existing documentation of events and that she need not contact you with statements like that again.
They sound like bullies, not professionals. Professionals don't make veiled threats. That is what their lawyers are for.

Oh also I could care less at this point but if it came down to it I could report my manager for some things she's done ....I'm not about to go there but if I have to turn the tables to show how unprofessional she actually is I can certainly explain those incidents to the proper person. But hopefully not! I'm just trying to make the point that she is not the most professional person in the first place ....but this really tops it off. I think HH / PDN mgmt have too much leeway and can cross boundaries too easily.
