i have a question i attend henry ford college and have most of my pre-req's done. (have to take chem 131 and net test). but i don't want to wait on the waitlist for 12-18 mos.:scrm: i was thinking about transferring to wcccd i have all but two pre-req's for their program done though (second part of anatomy and microbology). i have an b+in psychology,b in anatomy 1 and an a in english 1.

but the problem is should i just stay at hfcc or should i transfer to wcccd. and if i do transfer to wcccd will it be easy getting my transcripts in??(note: i have checked all classes transfer.)

it would really be helpful!!:rcgtku:

Now, this thread is already a bit confusing, but thought I would add to it =) with my own experience and understanding.

I took my final three pre-reqs during the Spring 2008 term at WCCCD. I finished these classes in early May 2008, my grades were posted in WebGate in early May (profs only get a few days to do so) and had plenty of time to apply at the May 19th application meeting.

The April 1st deadline is for courses that are being transfered in from another college - the records department has to not only receive the transcripts but also evaluate them prior to April 1st in order to apply in May. So, pre-req classes taken at another college would essentially put you behind at least one semester in the application process. You also need to remember the 12 CH requirement before they will actually evaluate you records.

All of that being said, your best bet is to go to an information meeting, sit close to the stage, and take notes...:twocents:

I wouldn't put much trust in the website information. Last I checked, it had not been sufficiently updated in quite a while.

The program nursing classes are held at (Belleville) Western and (Detroit) NW campuses. They used to be held at the Downtown location too, but that's changed (in case someone mentions that - it's no longer an option).

WCCCD calculates your application GPA with these five required pre-reqs: English I, Psych, Micro, A&P I, and A&P II.

While I (and everyone else) would encourage you to take care of all sub-core pre-reqs, they will only consider your GPA inclusive of the sub-core grades IF it raises your overall GPA and IF you've applied and fall on the competition fence with other applicants (and at that point, they would also consider your NET scores to break any/all ties). Those sub-core classes are: Soc, Am.Govt, Eng II, MedMath, Patho, Lifespan and Nutrition. There is additional requirement associated with MedMath - in that it MUST be taken prior to completion of the initial portion of the first semester. It will not matter if you've earned equivalent 4.0 in lecture or clinical, or if you're everyone's personal IV calculator...you MUST successfully pass MedMath or you can't continue with the program.

As far as HFCC wait-list? I can only speak as a witness of a close friend that graduated last June. She was told 1.5 - 2 years and to continuously check with the nursing department to see where she was on the list. She called numerous times and finally - she was in - after ten months. Maybe it was luck, maybe it was a complete fluke, but ten months was a nice surprise.

Hope this helps?

Would also like to add that Nutrition is another class that must be completed BEFORE you the start of your second semester AND Pharm has to be completed BEFORE the start of your second year or you can not continue....Keep this in mind when deciding what classes you are going to take and when....

I never knew they offered nursing classes at the DT campus....I know they used to offer them at the Eastern campus but they aren't doing that anymore....

Thank you Do-over! This is exactly what I was talking about....I think maybe I wasn't being clear enough. I thought it was just for transfer students but wasn't completely sure because they could have very well changed things...I agree she needs to go to an information meeting...they seem like a waste of time, but they really do help clear up any misconceptions....

:yeah:

thanks for the posts everyone. :redbeathe

what campus(es) has nursing classess at their sites. what hospitals do they do their clinicals at.

also i went to the wcccd website for their nursing program and the classess that they have listed such as pharmacology, medical math does these have to be done with the nursing courses??

hi,

the nursing classes are at the western campus & the northwest campus. there used to be some at the eastern campus but i have no idea where that is or if that is still an option. the other co-reqs (path, nutrition, eng, soc) can be taken at any campus that offers them & some are offered online.

as long as you are ahead of the game, you don't have to take the classes w/the nursing classes. since i didn't make the fall admissions, i made sure i took the classes required during the 1st nur term. i made sure i did them in the order the program advised.

if you get to a term in nur & say pharm is required & you have not taken it by that time, you will have to take it with. therefore, my summers were also co-req terms so i could stay ahead.

hospital clinicals are done at hfmain, wyandotte, heritage, southshore, st. joe's, children's, harper, karmonos, hutzel, sinai-grace, annapolis, det. recieving, walter reuther, circle of life, & i'm sure i've missed a couple. it all depends on where you are in the program--ms1-4 vs peds, psych, ob.

good luck!

I got on the list for HFCC in Oct 2007, and I was called in May for Fall 08. It wasn't nearly as long as I had thought.

I also preferred HFCC's campus vs. WCCCD. It seems a little more updated to me.

I attend HFCC, by this December when I pass chem and the NET, hopefully I can get accepted either in the fall or winter of 09. Hopefully:bugeyes:

WCCCD is moving their NW campus to a new location which is bigger and hopefully more updated...Western is almost finished with their construction as well...

I have been to HFCC and I was no more impressed with it over WCCCD....you will get the same education from both... Actually word on the street is WCCCD is producing some darn GREAT nurses that KNOW their stuff. Both are equally good schools...its all about preference...I will not bash HFCC, but I will defend WCCCD!

I just graduated from HFCC in May. I was put on the wait list at the end of the summer semester in 2006 (so late August) and I was in the program the following Fall. While I was waiting, I took both Anatomy and Physiology courses, so it wasn't like I was just waiting around doing nothing. It was also nice to not have to worry about any extra classes while I was doing the program.

I'm not sure if WCCC has changed, but last I heard, it wasn't an accredited school like HFCC is. I also know the success rate of NCLEX passing for HFCC is extremely high (I'm not sure what WCCC is).

Good luck with your decision! Whatever you choose, it won't be the wrong choice.

Pharmacology cannot be taken until you complete your first semester of the program. Medical math you can take before you are in the program and I would highly recommend doing so. The first semester is A LOT of work and to add another class would be very challenging.
