hesi study books... worth the $?

Published

I have seen the HESI study books in barnes and noble and on amazon. Has anyone ever used one, and if so, was it worth the money? Do you feel like it helped you prepare for the test? If so, please share (if its not too much trouble) which one you used! :) thanks in advance!

My school used to use HESI until we switched to ATI. The HESI book that they gave us was the review book with all the subjects in it. I thought it was pretty helpful as a supplemental study aid to your nursing school textbooks. It summarizes the information pretty well as far as signs and symptoms and what to do as a nurse. I liked to study from my text books to learn the concept and then read the HESI as a review of the material. I would say that it is worth the money.

...now on the other hand, since we switched to ATI I think the ATI books are just AWESOME. There is a book for each subject and it really explains the information really well. Hope that helps!

Hi,

If your school is one that makes you take the HESI as a graduation requirement I would definitely get their study guide. I normally test good and I found the HESI to be challenging but I would have been happy with Saunders if our school wasn't making us do the HESI. Good luck!

thanks! i appreciate the info. The school i will be going to requires the hesi a2 as a prerequisite to get into the nursing program. i just want to be prepared so i have better chances of getting into the nursing program. i found one on amazon. its only 25 bucks. figure if i start now, i may be ready by fall! :) LOL thanks again! happy new year!

My school required the HESI as a prereq, to assess how you would perform in nursing school. I did not buy the book or study for it (I was told its either you know it or you dont). I was in the 90th percentile of my class. So, I dont know if it is useful or not. The HESI is comparableto the GRE in someways. Its math, science, english etc. So I can see how it might help. Good luck getting in

Maybe we are talking about different HESI exams? The HESI book I have is a NCLEX-RN review. It is used as a tool to determine your readiness to pass NCLEX.

probably. i do have to take the nclex later down the line. but the hesi a2 is supposed to be on anatomy physiology, chemistry and biology, oh and math and reading/english. it tests your competency in these areas to see if you are ready for the nursing program. sorry if i caused any confusion... :)

yeah. i pretty much know the stuff. i did very well in my english and maths, and also in anatomy. i am taking physiology this semester and microbiology, and chemistry in the fall. but i am the type person who likes to have something to review. especially in the math area since its been two years since i have taken my last math class. i am planning to talk to an advisor, but since the school is an hour away, i will have to plan for that trip. :) maybe she can tell me if the books are helpful. thanks for your input! most appreciated!

Hi! I don't know if the TEAS and the HESI are the same tests, but I recently purchased the book and practice tests for the TEAS on this website:

http://www.atitesting.com/global/students/teas-faq.aspx#q3%23q3

I found it to be very helpful and I passed the test with flying colors. A friend

of mine didn't study for the test and unfortunately didn't pass.

Good luck!!

At my school we had to take the Hesi to get into the nursing program and as an exit exam. As far as for the one getting into the nursing program the book was only like 25 pages and was $35. To me it wasn't very helpful. But the one at the end of the program is suppose to be bigger and better to help you pass the NCLEX.
