Hesi retake

Published

Hello everyone.

I recently failed my exam and wanted to know from those of you who had to retake it, if the second time around was harder than the first exam? Also, what study tools did you use? Ex for. Metric system and medical term vocab. I only have one more chance to pass, so I want to get all the tips I can get. 😊Please share thank you!

Hello, Jtingle44,

I tried to reply to your message in private, but I was unable to because apparently in order to send a private message, you had to have had a certain number of topics posted? Oh well...I am so sorry to hear that you failed the exam. Don't beat yourself up, as you know I failed the first time as well, but passed the second time around with flying colors. In my opinion, every section, except chemistry, was easier the second time around. Math consisted of nothing but fractions and proportion problems, which I knew like the back of my hand. I pretty much guessed at the metric system. I used powers of ten as the answer for some of the problems. I figured it is best to keep it simple.

I listed the books I used in a previous post, but to be specific, I used HESI A2 Practice Tests 2016: 3 HESI Admisison Assessment Exam Practice Tests

HESI A2 Practice Book Prep Team. The practice tests helped me to get over the HESI test anxiety. I only took the practice tests, after I completed study of the section applicable to the practice test to test my knowledge of the subject matter.

The following two books were my go to for math. They helped me pass the math section.

Davis's Basic Math Review for Nurses: with Step-by-Step Solutions (I read every page of this book twice and did all the math problems).

Raines BS PTCB, Vicki

Dosage Calculations (Available Titles 321 Calc!Dosage Calculations Online)

Gloria D. Pickar (this book helped me to have a better grasp on the metric system). It helped a lot.

I ordered all of these books from Amazon. I gave myself 30 days to study for the test. I studied 3-4 hours a day Monday-Friday. I spent more time on the subjects that made me uncomfortable. I studied them until I was comfortable.

As far as vocab goes, I only studied the HESI book. I do pretty good with vocab, so I did not spend a lot of time on this. I have heard that quizlet and the HESI pocket apps are a huge help with vocab.

I know this a lot, but I was determined to pass and you can do it too! I hope this helps. Good Luck!

Tlc183 I replied to your private message. I did receive your first one. í ½í¸Š
