  1. I just found out yesterday that I was accepted into the Spring 2019 class, no open seats before then. But that is fine. I am just excited that I got in, now I feel like I can relax and concentrate on saving money this year, so that I can support myself next year. My husband pays our living expenses, but I still have a few bills of my own to pay. I plan to work this year, save money, and then take a job on campus once school starts. I do feel bad about working at my current employer for a year and then leaving, but working while going to school has never worked for me. I am just blessed to be in a position, to be able to save money, to support myself while I am in school. I know once school starts, it is going to be challenging, but I am chasing after my future, and being in the medical field has always been my dream. It has not been an easy road to get to this point, my husband almost left me over this, but God intervened and made the road less grueling. Good Luck to all!!! Let's get this program done!
  2. Hello, Jtingle44, I tried to reply to your message in private, but I was unable to because apparently in order to send a private message, you had to have had a certain number of topics posted? Oh well...I am so sorry to hear that you failed the exam. Don't beat yourself up, as you know I failed the first time as well, but passed the second time around with flying colors. In my opinion, every section, except chemistry, was easier the second time around. Math consisted of nothing but fractions and proportion problems, which I knew like the back of my hand. I pretty much guessed at the metric system. I used powers of ten as the answer for some of the problems. I figured it is best to keep it simple. I listed the books I used in a previous post, but to be specific, I used HESI A2 Practice Tests 2016: 3 HESI Admisison Assessment Exam Practice Tests HESI A2 Practice Book Prep Team. The practice tests helped me to get over the HESI test anxiety. I only took the practice tests, after I completed study of the section applicable to the practice test to test my knowledge of the subject matter. The following two books were my go to for math. They helped me pass the math section. Davis's Basic Math Review for Nurses: with Step-by-Step Solutions (I read every page of this book twice and did all the math problems). Raines BS PTCB, Vicki Dosage Calculations (Available Titles 321 Calc!Dosage Calculations Online) Gloria D. Pickar (this book helped me to have a better grasp on the metric system). It helped a lot. I ordered all of these books from Amazon. I gave myself 30 days to study for the test. I studied 3-4 hours a day Monday-Friday. I spent more time on the subjects that made me uncomfortable. I studied them until I was comfortable. As far as vocab goes, I only studied the HESI book. I do pretty good with vocab, so I did not spend a lot of time on this. I have heard that quizlet and the HESI pocket apps are a huge help with vocab. I know this a lot, but I was determined to pass and you can do it too! I hope this helps. Good Luck!
  3. My husband was not 100% supportive of me returning to nursing school, but he said if he would have said no, it would have caused a lot of problems between us. He is correct! I love and respect my husband and I stand by my marriage, but God has called me to help others and I know that if I keep my eyes on the prize, God will take care of the rest! He has so far, he is saving my marriage and giving me a purpose in life. Good luck!
  4. Hello, the retake was not the same as the first take. I found the retake to be easier than the first take. Keep in mind, I may have found it easier because I took the time to really study for the exam the second time around. There were a lot of vocab words on the test that was not in the HESI book. Some of the words on the test were medically related, and they were in the HESI book. It will not hurt to study the vocab section in the HESI book. I found the vocab section to be one of the easiest sections. If you are concerned about the vocab section, the HESI A2 pocket prep will be a huge help! I downloaded the app on my phone and quizzed myself on different sections every day. Practice tests will help you too! It is ok to be nervous, I was nervous too! I started with an easy section first, so that I could calm my nerves down. You will be fine. Just make sure you spend time reviewing your weakest areas. When is your exam?
  5. Hello, it is a good idea to review the vocab in the Hesi book to give you an idea of the type of vocabulary words that will be on the test. There were 50 vocab words on the test. I hope this helps.
  6. Passed HESI A2 retake today with flying colors! I would like to share with you how my score went from a 72.86% to 84.57%. My school only requires a 75% cumulative score in Reading, Math, Biology, Chemistry, and Anatomy (you can only take the test twice). Before I tell you how I was successful, I want to say that a lot of people state that they only studied the Evolve book and passed with flying colors. I took that advice the first time around and did not pass. I should have used supplemental materials. I am not saying the Evolve book is not a good resource; it should not be your only resource for this test. I was determined to pass, but not just pass the test, I wanted to do well in all the sections. I gave myself one month to prepare for the test. I studied 3-4 hours Monday-Friday. I took the weekends off. I devoted one week to each section that I needed to study. The resources that I used are the following: Evolve book-I only used this book to prepare for grammar, chemistry, and biology. It will not help you with anatomy. If you are strong in math, especially fractions and ratios, the Evolve book will be a good resource for you. If you have already taken Anatomy, your notes will be a good resource. Cliff notes are helpful as well. Dosage and Calculations-I used this book to study up on the metric system, fractions, ratios, and decimals. HESI A2 practice tests 2016-The practice tests helped me to prepare to take the HESI test. It took away a lot of my test taking anxiety. Davis's Basic Math Review for Nurses with Step-by-Step Solutions helped me to overcome my fear of fractions, ratios and decimals. I read through the entire book twice, and did all the problems. By the time I was done with this book, I found myself liking fractions and loving ratios! I am still a little rusty on the metric system. I will get there! I took Anatomy, prior to the retake, and did well, so I was confident that I would not totally bomb this section! Last but not least, I could not have passed the test without Prayer number one, and a book I found called Cracking the Nursing School Entrance Exam! This book has proven techniques for a higher score and that is exactly what I achieved. I seriously would not have done so well on the test without the extensive coverage of Biology, Chemistry, and Anatomy. Please do not take this test lightly, especially if you only have two chances to take this test. It is a difficult test, but if you take the time to study, the results will speak for themselves. Hard work always pays off! I officially applied to the nursing program today! Good luck!
  7. The HESI A2 Elsevier review book is a good tool to study for math, reading comp, vocab, grammar, and biology. As far as Anatomy goes, it does not help at all. You really have to use other resources to study Anatomy. I recently took Anatomy and did well in it, so I feel pretty comfortable with Anatomy (I too am taking the test in June). Some people have used quizlet, watched You Tube videos, etc. to study for Anatomy. Please make sure you are comfortable with fractions and ratios, they make up the majority of the math section. Good Luck!
