1/5/2018 HESI A2!!

Nursing Students HESI

Published

Alright, I'm taking the HESI A2 in less than a month from now. I have a few questions regarding this exam.

1. How difficult is the math? Is is just like the math that's in the pocket prep app?

2. The A&P? I got told it's the most problematic section for most students. I have been using the pocket prep app like crazy studying.

3. How about the grammar & reading comprehension. I feel those are the easiest subjects for myself but I know they can be tricky. I also been using pocket prep.

My school is requiring math, grammar, reading & A&P, along with the critical thinking.

Im wanting to pass the first go around. Help?! I will be glad to post my scores after the test to help anyone out.

I am taking my test for the first time on the 2-5 in Macon,Ga and I must be honest about studying...really haven't had time with classes but I have the full version pocket prep app and I've answered more than 1/2 the questions

Hi I took The Hesi A2 for the 2nd time last month and passed it finally. English is not my first language, so I take my time on reading and grammar. I noticed that on my first try I had a lot of fractions with mixed numbers for math, vocabulary was mostly from the Elsevier book, A&P was tricky and grammar was ok. I then went on the Elsevier and check the remediation they had for me, based on that I signed up with ready for the HESI A&P portion only, I also paid $35 dollars for the grammar book online, and did some reading. The grammar book online helped me a lot on the first try, Ready for the Hesi was great to help me with A&P. I tried not to spent much time on reading and found that reading second time around was much easier as not as nervous as the first time. Hope that helps. On A&P I GOT 75 FIRST TIME AND 92 SECOND TIME AROUND.

Hey, I just finished taking my exam!

1. The math is actually pretty easy. I honestly thought I was doing terrible on it but ended up with a 96%. I only used the official HESI A2 book. Make sure you're really good at ratios and proportions, and fractions. Most of my exam had those topics. I didn't have to divide fractions but I did have many fraction problems on my test. One military time question and zero roman numeral questions (you should still look over these sections). Also, make sure you know your conversions (both metric and English) because I probably had about 10 questions on those. I didn't use pocket prep for this section but I just looked through the math section and it seems pretty similar to what was on the exam.

2. I got a 96% on A&P. I mainly used the official elsevier book and the pocket prep app. I also bought the Ready For The Hesi study guide but I think the Pocket Prep app helped me the most. I constantly took 25-30 question tests on the app and then did 100 questions as exam day approached. I kept getting 100s.

3. I usually score the highest on reading comprehension but it was my second lowest score (88%). I used the official elsevier book for this and the McGraw Hill 3 Hesi A2 test book. It is definitely tricky, at least it was for me. I didn't have to take grammar.

I got an 850 on the critical thinking section.

Hi, I studied the $4th Editon Envolve book. English is my second language so i scored 82 on the reading part. There is nothing about anatomy part from the book at all. I saw most of biology question on there nothing really about bones or anything like that. I have been doing a lot of practice online as well as using quizlet too.

The vocabulary part, I saw about 10% from what I studied on the test.

I am planning on applying into nursing school this May, so I need to pass the test with 80% at least to get in.

Can anybody suggest a good book or tool please.

The HESI A2 pocket prep app, it is about $12-13. It is what I been using to study!

@ Brittany : What is the color of the pocket prep app you chose ? Is it purple or blue ?

Thanks

Purple!

From what I can remember of the math, there are a lot of fractions and proportions, I also had a few word problems. Also brush up on metric to English conversions and there are a few algebra problems. I am terrible at simple math which is my downfall. I am studying the hesi a2 exam review edition 4 to study and it covers all of this.

Do you remember if the calculator had a decimal point on it?

The math section is very basic! Just make sure you know how to do proportions and ratios (majority of your test will be this). Also know how to add, subtract, divide, and multiply fractions(great amount of questions were fractions). There were a few conversions of the metric system. Glance over military time (I only had 1 question) and glance over Roman Numerals.

Pocket Prep will help you TREMENDOUSLY on the A&P section. Know your muscles, hormones, and all organ systems. Know the types of joints, and the movements for each joint. Also know examples of each joint. Know the anatomy for the ears and eyes! (I had about 3 questions pertaining to those). I have to repeat this again lol MUSCLE AND HORMONES. Also know examples of bone ( ex: long bone, flat bone, sesmoid, irregular)

Reading Comp was about 2-4 short paragraphs and you have to determine the main idea, what was being implied, and making inferences. Very straightforward! Grammar was pretty easy as well! Make sure you focus on (affect vs effect) ( there, their, they're) (further and farther) (were and was) (subject-verb agreement). Most of my questions were " Which sentence is grammatically correct" or "Which word fits best in the sentence" It will be tricky if you don't pay attention.

My Overall Score: 87.5%

Reading:86%

Grammar:88%

Math:92%

Anatomy:84%

Critical Thinking:920

Hope this helps :)

Can you remember if the calculator for the math, had a decimal point?

It had a decimal point button.

Thank you, I was making sure since I have been studying using the calculator with a decimal point. ;)
