Hey everpark, first off congrats on your success!! Good luck on getitng in!! My question for you is, is cliff notes for A&P a website book or what exactly? Thanks in advance!
It's just those yellow books from the bookstore that condense a book or subject. It just makes it easier instead of going through the whole a and p book. It's in the nursing, science section at any bookstore.
Hi, I just took the HESI A2 test (with critical thinking) today. I don't think I did bad but I'm not sure if my test score will be enough to be considered for admission.
Here are my scores:
Reading Comprehension: 93.62%
Meaning Word Use: 100%
Conclusions: 87.5%
Implications: 100%
Understanding: 86.67%
Grammar: 94%
Vocabulary and Gen. Knowledge: 86%
English Composite: 91.21%
Biology: 92%
Chemistry: 88%
Anatomy and Physiology: 92%
Science Composite: 90.67%
Math: 100%
Cumulative Score: 92.23%
Critical Thinking: 830/1000 (I'm not sure if this is a good score since I scored 880 the first time I took the HESI A2.)
Does anyone know the acceptable score on the critical thinking section?
Also, my pre-req GPA is a 3.98 and a science GPA of 4.0.
I'm not sure if these scores and my GPA are good enough.
Hi Roe,
Those are great scores!
One thing I find interesting in the Personality and Learning Styles profile. No one's really said anything about that; I'm wondering what kind of ppl UTHSC is looking for? My learning style is Visual/Analytical and my Personality Profile was listed as Creative/People.
Hi SerenePeach,
My learning style is kinesthetic/analytical and had creative/leader for my personality profile. I'm not sure either what that might imply about my application/future performance as an RN. I'm planning to call UTHSC tomorrow and ask a counselor about my application and HESI scores. Also, I took the HESI for another school. Do you know how I can send my scores to UTHSC? How did you do on the Critical Thinking section? I'm quite worried about that because if you think of it, my Critical Thinking score is just 83% (830/1000) and though it's higher than the 750 minimum, I'm still not so sure about it.
Hi Roe,
I'm not sure how you send scores to another school, but you could try calling the help line at 1-800-950-2728 and talk to Customer Support.
For UTHSC, the minimum acceptable score is 750, so I think you did fine. On Elsevier's website, it says the class average is 793, but I don't know if that's nationwide or for particular schools. The highest Critical Thinking Score I've seen on allnurses.com was 900 so far. I scored an 880 on the Critical Thinking part, and 96% overall (97%English, 92%Science, 100%Math).
I've actually talked to the HESI counselor of the school I have the test addressed to. She said that I don''t have to worry about my critical thinking score since they use it as an assessment tool and not a pass/fail factor. Oh well, I guess I didn't do that bad and is just fussing about it. I'm just glad it's over and done with and I can just take it easy the next 2 weeks I have left before the fall semester starts.
The test is very similar to the first version. It's pretty basic, especially the science section. I think the fact that the science section is not as specific and in-depth is both a good and bad thing. It's good because you don't have to memorize a lot of details but at the same time, the topics are quite broad so you have to make sure that you know the basics about body systems and anatomy vocabs. Also, the math and english sections are not as hard. I prefer the HESI because the questions are more straightforward and concise. I remember thinking the TEAS test is just confusing because of how they worded the questions and answer choices.
Do you remember specific anatomy questions?? I'm freaking out !! I take my test tuesday!! and I'm studying for the vocabulary part too. TEAS was so confusing I took it too. I know math and reading are pretty straight forward. Did you study from the Elsevier book? And I heard that you can take only the section that you failed? Do you know anything about that? I'm not sure though! I will call UT tomorrow to verify with them. What do you think?
I took the test for another school that requires the bio and chem sections. I remember questions about the brain (function of the medulla oblongata, which part of the brain is connected to the spinal cord). Also, review the hormones and which glands secrete it. I used my A&P text, Kaplan's, and Barron's to review for A&P and bio. For chemistry, I used my notes from my chem class last semester. I'm not quite sure about re-doing just the sections. I figured it's better to just re-take all sections to cover all bases, so to speak. I heard that the HESI reviewer is not as helpful. Out of all three I used, I'd say Kaplan's and my A&P text are the ones that are the most helpful. Barron's was helpful too but it's too generalized. Kaplan's was great because they give you tips on how to remember all these information and they provide you with good rationales about the right answers on the practice test unlike other review books.
