Hi everyone,
I plan on taking the HESI entrance exam on Jan. 30th. Physics and Chemistry will not be tested on this exam. I have the 2nd edition Evolve study guide book, and I'm trying to study from it. Considering I work full-time, have 3 kids and no time, I'm really stressed out and would love someone to give me some guidance please.
For those of you who have taken the exam already...
Bio/A&P:
How specific are the biology and A&P questions? example?
Do the questions get much more in detail than what is summarized in the study guide?
If so, what else can I use to help me study?
Vocabulary/Grammer:
Is it a separate section or with grammar on the exam?
What's the best way to study vocab?
Are the words in the study guide sufficient enough to study?
How tricky are the grammar questions?
Any help is greatly appreciated :)
Thank you!

Hi! I just read your post and was wondering how your test went?! I'm taking it in two weeks and am seriously freaking out :/ do you have any tips on what to focus on?
Hi nursehopeful13,
The HESI wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. *By the grace of God, I got a 91! I had 4 hrs to do the 6 sections (math/reading/grammar/vocabulary/biology/a&p)
Math was pretty much right out of the study guide - fractions/ratios/conversions - some of these questions were not multiple choice
Reading/grammar- also pretty straightforward - nothing too hard
Vocab - lots of questions were from the study guide - maybe just a few weren't
Bio/A&P- pretty random questions- just focus on cell structure, functions of different organelles, organ systems. Personally, I think the study guide was very broad when it came to these sections, so I was also using my old textbooks and the internet to study.
My only advice to you is to relax and take your time. I rushed it and finished in 2 hrs. I'm sure if I would've taken my time I could've scored higher.
Oh woow, you did great! Congrats! :) were you able to use a calculator for the math section? Also, how long had you been preparing for the exam?
Yes, there is a simple computer calculator on the screen. I started about a month ago, but only studied whenever I had the chance considering I'm a wife, mother of 3, and work full time. :)
Omg you give me hope! You probably have so many responsibilities, yet there is no stopping you and that's inspiring :) thanks so much for the update!

I am in my 5th quarter at the school of nursing. I ordered a hesi study guide from amazon and it was right on the money! I passed with no problem the first time! Good luck!

Hi sarsorra8,
I'm kind of in the same boat as you! I am pregnant right now and working full-time, and also applying for NJCU in the fall. I was supposed to take my test a month ago, but it was cancelled because of snow and rescheduled for this Wednesday. Is the calculator available for the entire math portion? Some of the questions on the study guide are "Subtract 77.3 from 88.284". Do they even let you use the calculator for questions like that?
Hello Rotko15,
Yes, the calculator is available the entire portion on the right hand side (you can use it for all the questions). Some of the questions are open ended and not multiple choice - just an fyi. Good luck!!!
Thanks for the help! I got the test in despite the snow and got a 90! So relieved!
