Hepatitis B

Hi, i'm an 8 weeks old nursing student and i need some input on how to handle a situation like this. I'm seeking knowledgeable answear. thank you

A patient (22 yrs old) enter the hospital and tell you that she just found out her boyfriend have Hepatitis B and they been having unprotective sex for the last 3 of months. The boyfriend been under combination therapy for 2 years and the virus is no long active. Looking at her immunation record, you see that she have already recieved her 3 dosage of Hepatitis B immunization when she was 18. She feels fine and she doesn't have any illness. Patient said she is nervous that she might get Hepatitis B. What action and teaching should the nurst tell the patient?

Her titer should be checked to see if she needs a booster.

She needs to see her doctor, who might draw some labs on her. I would give reassurance that seeing the doctor is the best she can do at this point and time and remind her of HepB vaccination series is in her favor.

If she's had the three shots she's probably immune, but the only way to tell is through bloodwork.

She should have her titers drawn - bloodwork. Immunity can be shown through - ta dah! - blood work.

In addition, I would strongly counsel her NOT TO HAVE UNPROTECTED SEX!
