Hemet New Grad Program August 2015

Published

Curious as to if anybody applied for the Hemet Valley Medical Center New Grad program on August 12th, and if they've been called for an interview, etc.

Thank you!! Looks like it's time for me to go out there again, and see who I can meet :-) I feel weird just walking into the actual department, though. You just walk in to the department you applied for and ask for the nurse manager? The thought scares me, but I'm pretty willingly to do whatever I can to land a job at this point. I don't see a link posted, but I did apply for one position and used your name as the referral source. Thank you for offering that! It may help tremendously! :)

Sorry, I didn't attach it. Here ya go; https://www4.recruitingcenter.net/Clients/IHHI/PublicJobs/controller.cfm

Yes, walk to the department and ask for the director. If the director is not available then ask for the nurse manager. Tell them you are an RN, you applied online, and you wanted to come in person and meet them, and see if there is anything else you can do or provide for them. Bring your cover letter, resume, references, and a page with all your certs copied on it. If you have a portfolio, which I recommend, bring that as well in case you can actually sit and talk with them. Tell them how you applied online and you don't want to get swallowed up in the system, because you know how many applications they must receive, and you are very passionate about working there (have reasons why). NEVER use the words NEW GRAD when trying to get someone to get the director or manager for you. Get in front of them first, then you can bring up that you are a new grad. They love high energy and enthusiasm. Talk up your clinical experience and how acute and extensive it was, and use that management experience you have and talk about how it has given you great leadership, critical thinking, and personable skills.

Thank you again, for the hundredth time :-) You've been a great help! That's pretty much what I did at the couple places I walked in to, but didn't go any further than HR once I was turned away. I felt so prepared with my portfolio and customized cover letter, etc, but felt like hiding under a bed when I walked out both time...HA!! It's SO hard!! But I'm praying there's a position cut out for me in the future :-) I'm so happy you landed a job, and have basically marketed yourself to a point where you don't have to take just anything, but can actually make a choice of a few options! That is so wonderful to hear!! Guess I need to keep on truckin' and hit the road again!

And was finally able to send you a message!!

Hey Mrdeararmas

You said that you applied for a position at Corona Regional. Do you know if that hospital has gotten any better? I'm not from the area, but I read a couple articles online from a couple years ago and it seemed that the hospital was in disarray. Any info?

I don't have first hand experience because I didn't take that job, but I slid my buddy into my position and he got it. And I have a friend who's wife is an RN in the OR. She says that the hospital itself is fine, but some of the administration is the problem. Orange County Global Medical Center is where I'm at, and they are always looking for nurses. They hire a lot of new grads too.

Thanks! I'm not exactly sure if we'll be moving to Corona or Moreno Valley yet, so I don't want to get too far out of the I.E. in case we decide to go with Moreno Valley. Are you at the Santa Ana location? That's where all of the positions seem to be. I have three years of experience, mostly in tele and they have a few of those open.

Yeah I'm at Santa Ana. Around that area is also Riverside Community Hospital, Loma Linda, and Kaiser Riverside. 3 years of experience will go a long way for you here. You can also head south to Loma Linda Murrieta, Inland Valley Medical Center, Rancho springs Medical Center, and Temecula Valley Medical Center.

I appreciate the help. I started filling out applications over the weekend. I really wanted to work at Riverside Community or one of the other county hospitals but they don't really have any openings that I qualify for. I'll apply for a few of the Orange County Global positions and hopefully I'll hear something back.

I know we will be needing some night nurses with experience in the ER. I'll PM you.

Hi mrdearmas, how are you liking Orange County Medical Center? I'm a recent graduate and will be applying to this hospital. Do you think the hospital offers adequate support for New Grads? How's the hospital culture like? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. TIA.
