Hemet New Grad Program August 2015

Published

Curious as to if anybody applied for the Hemet Valley Medical Center New Grad program on August 12th, and if they've been called for an interview, etc.

No, and I'm pretty discouraged because I only have an associates. I'm currently working on my BSN, but feel like the underdog for sure, especially here. Not sure where else to look. I've applied for SO many new grad jobs and not a single call. Hope your interview goes wonderful!! Best of luck!!

I was hired!! I was waiting until I got the "official" offer, although they told me Monday all my details. They were going to fill the position with an employee referral, and then the director got my message that I came by and she missed me. Because I came in person, she pulled my app and read through my resume etc and decided to hire me before she even called me to come interview. I left the interview (which was really more like an orientation) and got a call as soon as I got in my truck for another offer, which I had to decline. Then yesterday I got another one! DON'T be discouraged! Get dressed up and go in person straight to the director of the department you want to work. It landed me 4 interviews and so far 3 job offers! I was supposed to get a call by the end of the week for the 4th. I know Orange County Global Medical Center had a lot of positions posted for MedSurg if you are interested in that. Now you have an employee referral! (Jose de Armas)

Congratulations!! I'm so happy for you!! That is AWESOME!! I've tried the whole "walk in and try to find somebody" but have been turned away both times, so I've basically given up. They said "apply online, we cannot talk to you personally, and cannot accept a hard copy of your resume and cover letter, as that makes it unfair to other applicants". I just don't know what to do now. I'm considering looking out of state :sorry: Thanks for the encouraging words! I'm so excited for your new journey!!

You have to apply online first. Then when you go in you can talk to the director, or even go to HR and ask for the nursing recruiter. You might try Corona Regional. They own Inland Valley, Temecula Valley, and Rancho Springs as well. But corona won't make you do a new grad program, they just hire new grad positions and stick you with a preceptor. The recruiter was supposed to meet with the ER director and manager tomorrow and give them all my info etc. I am referring a good friend in my place when the recruiter calls me, but when I spoke with her last week when she was following up with me, she asked if for whatever reason the ER fell through, would I be willing to go to MedSurg? Maybe check their site and see if there are any other new grad positions open. The recruiter was excited i had my license in hand, I guess they don't get that often. Try there! Her name is Lesli.

Thank you for that information!! I've tried there, too! I tried to message you because it's hard to write it all on this open forum, but I'm unable to since I don't have enough posts. I've literally applied to every job I see, and not a single call. Not sure what I'm doing wrong. :(

My PM is working now because I have 15 posts. Just throw some more posts up to use that. You're not doing anything wrong, it is hard for EVERYONE! I have friends that were LVNs, CNAs, and a surge tech in a cath lab that have worked in their hospital for YEARS, that now have their RN license and weren't hired. It's crazy. I don't know that I can do much at the place I was just hired until I start, but if you are still looking then I will do what I can. We all need all the help we can get! Get your PM working so I can send you something. Just reply to this and go post on a few different threads.

I did apply, and used you as the referral source. But as of today, I think I've applied to pretty close to 100 jobs (over the course of 4 months) and haven't received a call. I've applied at Corona Regional, Inland Valley, Tri City, Rancho Springs, Temecula Valley, Scripps, Hoag, Saddleback Memorial, Sharp, Hemet, CHOC, skilled nursing, senior living, doctors offices, the list goes on and on. My resume seems to be pretty similar to a majority of new grad resumes I've seen, and I tailor my cover letters, give all my certifications (BLS, ACLS, PALS, ECG, etc) and still nothing. I've already started my BSN because I feel I'm at a major deficit due to that, but other than that, not sure what else to do. My previous career field was in management positions, so I've even considered looking for those jobs, but my true passion is nursing. Trying to keep my head up :-) Is Lesli the nurse hiring manager at Corona Regional? Did you go in there personally? I've applied for 2 jobs there with no response.

Lesli is the nurse recruiter. The hiring managers are the manager and director of each individual department. I applied online, and no call. So I went in my suit and brought my resume, references, cover letter, and certifications. I have BLS, ACLS, PALS, Basic arrhythmia, Rapid STEMI ID, Acute Stroke, and NIH Stroke Scale. I asked for the nurse recruiter, and an HR lady came up and asked to see my stuff. She looked at it and brought me back into the office. She asked my 3 times if I actually had my license already. She saw my certs and said "oh my, you need to speak to Lesli." So we walked to Lesli and I introduced myself. She again asked me 3 times if I had my license in hand. I rambled off my license number off the top of my head, which for some reason impressed her. She saw my certs and also was pleased. She said she was meeting with the ER hiring managers in a week (now tomorrow) and would be bringing them my stuff. I talked to her Friday and she asked if for some reason ER fills would I be interested in MedSurg or PCU, to which I replied I would be happy to fill any position they needed. She said "ok, I WILL get you a job." So now I have this other one, and my friend that I was going to recommend for the ER spot told me tonight that the ER posting is gone. So I'm not sure what's going on, but it's worth a shot to talk to her. Get your PM working and I will send you her direct number, but I think you should just go in.

I definitely may head in there, thank you! I have my license in hand, as well, but have felt maybe I'm getting "passed over" because I don't have a BSN (although it is in progress). I think the reason your friend isn't seeing the position is because they're no longer accepting applications for it? I'm not sure, just a guess :-) I appreciate all the help you've lent. I keep hoping each day for a call, and lose faith with each day it doesn't happen. When you see multiple new grad positions at a hospital (in different departments), do you apply for all of them, or just one?

I apply for every one. I even apply for ones that are not new grad positions at certain hospitals. Like at the one I just got hired, Orange County Global Medical Center, I applied for 20 different positions between ER, ICU, and MedSurg. I called the recruiter the day after and she said they will hire new grads into those positions even though it says 1 year experience required. But that recruiter is no longer with that hospital. I felt the same way about the BSN. I am currently doing mine as well. I applied to the Neuro Trauma ICU at UCI, called the recruiter and she said she would be happy to pull my app and forward it to the hiring manager. The next week I called her again and she said they already chose who to interview. I asked why I didn't get chosen and she said because I didn't have a BSN. I told her I was enrolled (I hadn't started it at that point) and she said it didn't matter. So the next day I suited up and went in straight to the department. I talked with the assistant nurse manager. She said she loved that I came in, but the CNO won't even look at ADNs. She said they have so many they can be picky. She said if it were up to her she would have taken my resume and asked that I be interviewed, but there was nothing she could do. Where I am now, it doesn't matter. They will be stoked that you are in yours. The manager is finishing her BSN now and she has been there for 16 years! Corona felt the same way.

You've been such a huge help! I guess I'm to have to start calling people and physically walking in. I had given up on that since the couple times I tried, I was immediately turned away. I'm willing to work in any department, as well, but wasn't sure if it "looked bad" when I applied for every single position they post. When I went in to UHS HR office (all dressed up), and was told they couldn't take my information or allow me to speak with anybody, even though I had already applied online, I was told they could look me up to make sure all my information was correctly attached and submitted. When they looked me up, I was told "Oh, you've applied for multiple positions, your stuff has been received". I almost felt as if they were saying that wasn't a good thing that I had multiple submissions. I said "yes, that is true, as I still haven't found a position yet, so I've continued to apply". And that was basically all they could do to help. Just gets me a little discouraged, but I'll continue to keep up the effort :-) When talking to other nurses in my certification courses, many said it's really upsetting that there are SO many new grads unable to find work, but they'll bring in travelers instead of hiring new grads, training them, and receiving a permanent employee who will stay with the hospital. Thank you again for your help and encouragement!

You're welcome. I felt the same way until I got the first call and then all these calls and offers came in at once. Apply for everything. If asked about it you say you are a new grad and it is hard to find a position, so you are keeping your options open. You can tell interviewers things like: I am applying for med surge because I want to get a strong base as a new grad, or if you are interviewing for the ER you say yes I applied for med surge because I am a new grad and want a position but ER is my passion etc. Maybe some of the people out there will think it looks bad to apply for all of that, but I think most of them realize how difficult it is right now for a new grad to get a job so they understand that you are just trying to get hired. Keep it up, something will land. Always go to the department as well though. At Orange County Global I went to HR and felt like they didn't even want to look at me when they asked if I had experience and I answered that I was a new grad. That's why I went straight to the ER, and because I went there I got hired. The director straight up told me that. You can do it! Here is a link. I know ICU and ER are full, I don't know why they are still posted. But look at how many MedSurg and Tele there are. If it just says RN it's MedSurg. Apply for all these and put my name. Then go to the departments.
