I have Professor Bouwman for fall semester and I can't seem to pass any of the test. I have done everything execpt get a Tutor. Does anyone have tips for me. I really need to keep my grades up and I can't afford to not Pass this class and take it again? thank you for your help:p

I didn't take A&P at MCC, but I took it at OCC. I know you have to cram a lot of information in your head all at once. I never had a tutor either, but this is what I did.

  • I brought a recorder to my class and took notes that I missed in his lecture. This way I was also able to understand the concept more clearly.
  • For lab I brought my digital camera and took pictures of the bones/cell figure/muscles/dissected cat, etc. I got very familiar with all the various parts in the body this way.
  • I asked my professor for advice on how to study for the test.
  • Organized study groups. If your group gets off topic, I would stray away from them. I feel study groups are helpful when people explain things you don't understand. Sometimes students can be the best teachers. :)

Just my two cents! Good luck :)

Okay...I had professor bouwman too and honestly she is tough but she is a great teacher too, so dont be scared to ask her questions or use the tutors that she recommends.

I recevied a b- and worked my butt off.....

Here is what I recommend....buddy up with people in the class. You should listen to bouwman and write down everything she says...word for word. Try not to miss anything she says...you might want to get a dictaphone and listen to her after class too!

If you buddy up then you can compare notes. Prior to the tests reread your notes....over and over and over.

My class started with 35 and 5 people took the final. She is tough but the pain of getting through the class is what you will need to be successful in the future.

i have made friends in the class but that muscle test was so unbelieviable hard i failed it!!! I cant seem to keep what i studied in my head... im going to have to see the tutor... i just really can't afford it!

Ask Professor Bouwman if there are any free tutors around. I recommend you go to every open lab there is......I worked my butt off too but you can do it and just dont give up! It is intense but do whatever it takes to pass....the knowledge you learn in her class will make things easier down the road...I promise!

Annie-

That is cool you could take your digital camera. I had the same great idea but my prof got so mad when I asked if I could take pictures and said I would be cheating. I thought it was a great idea though and if everyone is allowed then it isn't cheating- just too bad for those who don't.

Anyway, the point of my rambling is make sure you ask before you even bring your camera to class. She was very upset I even had a camera with me and I never turned it on.

The advice from blue1018 is good advice. Go to every open lab possible. The tutors that are in the learning center are free, MCC pays them not you. Bouwman does not allow cameras of any kind in the lab. She is a great teacher and the more people that drop the nicer she'll seem. It's like she's waiting to weed out the people that can't hang and focus on the ones who are really trying. By trying I mean devoting your entire life to her class. It sucks but it's worth it when you come out of it with a real understanding of human anatomy.
