I'm taking my PA CNA state test tomorrow and my class is arguing about what to wear and what not to wear. The Red Cross never addressed this but the letter for the testing site specifically states: Please wear tank top, sleeveless shirt or loose fitting shirt with short sleeves.
The state exam book states to wear Easy to slide off shoes with non-skid soles.
Half the girls say they are wearing scrubs and the other half, active wear and easy slide on shoes.
Another girl I know who took the test a while ago says that her teacher told her how you dress gets factored into the test and you have to presentable for skills test in scrubs ONLY.
Any advice or clarification needed please. If scrubs were mandatory wouldn't the PA state exam just simply state that is the dress code? What gives with this confusion and vague instructions?
They had you use soap and water to make sure you got the soap off them and to make sure the sheets weren't a sopping wet mess when you were done I would think.
Well yes, what I meant was the fact that they had us use anything at all. I was told most places (other states) make you use a dry wash cloth and pretend to use soap and water because those manaquins can cost thousands of dollars. Having hundreds of students use them each month can increase the wear and tear. I guess it depends on what kind they have.
I wore scrubs to mine as I was headed to work after the test. My state, at the time, didn't require skills testing as clinicals counted as your skills portion. However, wearing a tank top under your scrubs is a good way to prevent butt crack and cleavage exposure to patients/residents.
Oh yah, I forget to mention the cleavage coverage also for reason for tank top, I bet they get more exposure of that then the butt crack lol if no tank top required.
This is timely! I take my test on August 21st. I also went through the Red Cross. It does not sound encouraging that only 3 people found work (only intermittently). I'm keeping my fingers crossed though. There are a lot of openings in the Philadelphia area. Thanks for asking this question. I may have to order some slip on shoes. All I have is tie-up sneakers.
I took my test in December 2013 and I wore scrubs and a tank top underneath. I also wore slip on shoes, although they had us take our shoes off to get in the bed when it was our turn to be the patient. Also, to those who are worried about getting a job after testing, I got my first CNA job in home care about two months after getting certified.
I wore yoga pants, flip flops, and a loose fitting top. Good thing, too - the girl I was paired up with got modified bed bath.
Don't wear make-up. Glad I didn't, since she washed my face.
About finding a job - I found exactly what I wanted within a week of sending out applications. And it's a sub-acute facility, which I'm so pleased with.
When we took our CNA state test at technical college we were required to wear our scrubs, with correct shoes. We were also required to wear a tank top under our scrub shirt. The teacher explained that the tank top under your scrub top help prevent your breast from being exposed if you had to bend over or if your shirt lifted in back while bending the tank top helped to prevent students butt crack from being exposed.
