Help! What classes should I take?

Let me start off by saying that I work full time and have a 4 month old daughter. I'm working on returning to school this fall to work on my prereqs and I need advice. I need to take child psych, public speaking, and a&p 1 before I can apply. The semester after I apply, while I'm waiting to hear, I need to be taking A&p2. That will leave me with microbio along with my nsg classes. I can only take class at night so what should I do. I can take public speaking and child psych this fall and then take one class at a time until next fall when I can apply to the program or I can take A&P1 and speech this fall and apply this fall but then I will have to find time for the other classes down the line or I can take one class at a time and put off applying until who knows when. The first two options are ok but I won't be home 3 nights a week and after having my daughter in day care during the day while I work I feel guilty. The third option will allow me more time with my daughter now but I worry that I'll get restless taking 1 class at a time. Any advise????????

Hi,

It looks like you have busy schedule,wow...There are some people who work full time, have kids and still take as much as 3 or 4 classes, how they do it..I dont know, but somehow the do what suppose to be done.So if you think you can be like that you should stick with two first options and apply to the program this year, but on the other hand if you feel it will be too much you should apply next year and take things slower. It all depends on your study habbits and determination, good luck with what ever you decide to do.

If you want to get them done sooner - why not AP1 and child psych now, and next semester AP2 with speech, and then micro in the summer.

Is your daughters Dad around? Babies can flourish with their fathers as well as with the mothers. Just think, when you do spend time with her - you will appreciate that much more!

I agree. If you are married now is the time to foster their relationship. Fortunately I am a sahm, but my oldest is in school, so i dont see him all day. I worry about time I spend away from him, but my hubby and I also realize that its something we have to sacrifice in order to have a better future.

Thanks all. Problem solved. I'll be taking speech and child psych in the morning 2 days a week. Unfortunately I won't be able to apply until next fall because I simply canot do it all. At least I'll be able to really focus on my science classes. I need those A's. Everything happens for a reason. Hey, I'll get to be home with my family at night! woo hoo!

I think you've made a very wise decision. Your daughter is still so very young and my guess is that so are you.

My children are now all grown and with a LOT of perspective (and probably many years on you), I will tell you that they grow up entirely too fast. You have plenty of time to complete nursing school. Unless you need the income from an RN career immediately, I would take whatever time you need to spend time with your family and complete prereqs successfully without everyone (including you) feeling shortchanged. Nursing school will require enough of your time and energy when the time comes.

I wish you the best!!
