help understanding offers etc

I had a few interviews and one for sure went really well and they asked for some references etc but also have interviews with a couple of others places too in coming week and do not know how to handle it if officially turns into an "offer" it would be so cool to be able to place them all against each other and weigh the benefits and such but I have a feeling it simply doesn't work like that? I saw somewhere that approx 5 days is the most time you would have to weigh your options? When they do make an "offer" do they come out and tell you everything like benefits and stuff like this? I guess a maybe a better question is how have other of ppl decided between places? obviously location, specialty, salary>are there other things to consider I can not think of besides what would give one the most purpose?

I was simply upfront by saying I had another interview coming up and asked for some time to decide. I was told that I could take the time but they would not hold the specific position I was being offered (so I would have to choose from what was open if I decided to go with that hospital). This policy likely varies by hospital. And yes, they will tell you everything being offered with the position. If there is something specific you would like to know, just ask! I always asked about tuition reimbursement. Good luck!

  • day shift/night shift
  • weekend requirements (every other/ every third/ every 4th)
  • Holiday requirements
  • location of the hospital (bad part of the city)

I would want to know also, is there a contract/requirement to stay a certain amount time? Because if this does not work out, you want the flexibility to find another position, not paying back any bonus/incentive moneys offered to sign on. That is a common trap.
