Hey all :) Im Katy and I have a very weighty assignment to interview a current Nurse and get a few answers to my career questions. If a couple charitable Nurses could help me out that would be fantastic! Just a few quick questions and detail would be appreciated :)
1)What is your typical day?
2)As a student what nursing setting were you aiming for and why?
3)What is the biggest challenge for you as a Nurse?
4)How does your job help you feel fulfilled (assuming it does lol)?
5)If you could change something about your career what would it be?
6)Have you ever had a touching moment with a patient/resident? Please share :)
7)How do you feel your job helps the world around you?
8)Why did you become a nurse?
9)What do you dislike about Nursing as a profession?
10)What makes someone suited to be a Nurse in your opinion?
If you answer my questions please do all ten because I have to pick one particular person and use their answers. I really look forward to hearing your stories and I hope at least two or three Nurses can help me out because I don't know any in person and it will be very hard to track some strangers down as a single mom lol.
THANK YOU

I'm going to sound like a real butt, here, but it is thoroughly irritating to read that last sentence.
I'm guessing you complete many tasks throughout your day and manage to do so--even though you are a single mom.
If you can get on here, why can't you make some phone calls, explain your assignment and see if any hospital, clinic or LTC (or wherever) can help you... like other students do?
Come on.
Really? You want me to harass busy Nursing staff at my locally overloaded hospitals, clinics or nursing homes? I don't know if you are from Ontario but we have a serious health care shortage here and people are busy.
But since you want reasons here you go:
1)I am a single mother of a 10 month old with zero support system, show me where I have the time or resources and I will get it done genius
2)I have been very ill due to surgical complications for 8 weeks now and completing all work online and relying on good friends to deliver things for me
3)It is the end of the semester and I live in a rural area. The amount of gas needed to float around interviewing or being turned down by nursing staff in various cities could be the difference between formula for my daughter and no food for me in the next two weeks.
4)This is an online community of nurses discussing and helping each other. If ever there was a place to ask a few questions this is it.
I thank you for demonstrating to me that even in places one would set out to foster companionship and ask advice in an intellectual environment there will always be someone trying to bring me down.
Come on. Get a life and stop making the already difficult lives of other people worse with your downer attitude. Be of assistance or do not reply to my thread.
For all those who may be reading this displeased post: if you share this persons attitude and demeanor refrain from posting. If you care to help it is still very much appreciated :)
Have a great day eh.

While we understand having a busy life, we also understand the importance of some assignments and why they need to be done a certain way. This is a public forum and usually you can't edit people from responding. If you only wanted to hear what you wanted to hear...... a public forum may not be best for your needs.
The interview process is an important one in the assessment of any given patient. This is where many verbal and non verbal cues can be ascertained about someones health...physical as well as mental. Many abused patients will deny that there is any abuse or that their living conditions are perfectly fine but their body language/eye contact is the secret to the soul. This comes with experience and it would be difficult to get face to face experience online. even the infliction is a patient's voice can give clues vital to a care.
I wouldn't just "show up" somewhere and expect to get a positive response. There are many other places to talk to a nurse. I am not so sure about Canada as you have a National Healthcare system but I am sure there are ask a nurse phone lines or public heath nurses that are available to call. When you see your MD for your present issues ask for extra time with the office nurse to ask her these questions. Here we have these "Minute Clinics" in drug stores with Nurse Practitioners. Try there. here we also have school nurses with in the schools...I'd also try calling them and ask to drop by.
Caring for patients requires creativity and ingenuity. It is like we are detectives investigating a mystery and your verbal skill and creativity in obtaining your research information develops one into a better nurse.
I, too, believe these interviews are better served face to face or at least on the phone if you are house bound. Being housebound for health reasons is different than just because you are a single Mom.
I know this isn't what you want to hear.....I wish you a speedy recovery.
Good Luck!:paw:
When I say theres a health care shortage Im not joking. When I see this MD I do not have I'll be sure to ask his equally imaginary nurses a few questions. And Telehealth (thats our Canadian public health line) is for emergency health issues wherein a patient cannot access a health care worker immediately. I'd be a bit of a time waster to call them about career questions wouldn't I? As for walk-in clinics they are always lined up out the door in my area as there are two that are open 3 days a week for a couple hours at a time. And maybe I should not have to put my health and living situation out into the world to beg a few measly answers to some simple questions you could just answer instead of posting an ignorant statement when you don't understand the resources available within an area. You should find a forum where Africans are looking for safe water to drink and tell them to go buy it at Wal-Mart because your foreign ignorance would be just as applicable there. The internet disgusts me. I like how two people have managed to take the time to crank out posts belittling me for using the greatest resource at my availability to complete my work yet neither supposed Nurse can be bothered to help. You make me reconsider my desire to work within my chosen field and enforce the foreign persona of the ignorant and rude American. I hope to God someone with the actual intention of helping me and answering my questions reads the thread soon.
I am not being harsh and I hear what your are saying very clearly. Do you have nurses in your schools? I'm sorry your MD doesn't have a nurse. Your living position has no bearing on why I think you need to try to do a face to face interview.
I'm sorry we've upset you. I wish you the best. :paw:
We do not have school nurses in Canada. And I am saying I do not have a family doctor like most citizens I seek medical care only when absolutely vital because it means ten hours of waiting in emerge, I think they would be pretty ****** off if I faked an illness and waited ten hours to get some answers. And once again. I am not required to do a face to face interview. I need answers to questions which I then spin into a small paper based on the ANSWERS. Not facial expressions,or tone,or the way someone smells, looks, acts or dances on their head.

it's busy everywhere.
how do you think students did this before the internet?
the point of an interview is to exercise communication skills.
a survey answered by random strangers is not offering you that. chances are, you will get your answers and that will be it. no further questions, no expansions on thoughts or ideas, no practice in the very interview skills that are required.
but you don't have to do that.
but since you want reasons here you go:1)i am a single mother of a 10 month old with zero support system, show me where i have the time or resources and i will get it done genius

when you are in school, you should be prepared for the requirements.
everyone is expected to do what they have to do. they know the requirements and it is their job to fulfill those requirements.
i see an entitlement in that you want the prize, but you feel you have special considerations that exempt you from shouldering the very responsibility you chose to take on.

life is rough, for sure.
no sarcasm.
i thank you for demonstrating to me that even in places one would set out to foster companionship and ask advice in an intellectual environment there will always be someone trying to bring me down.
that's a victim's attitude.
please, look at your title. look at your last paragraph.
it reeks of helplessness and the expectation that pity will get you responses.

i'm not sure how my response made your life worse.
you control that.
i'm sorry that telling you put some real effort into your homework is a "downer".

i may be the only one.
i may just be... rather unpopular in my view.
but so it is.

cheers.

Yes but how do you know if any of the posters on an anonymous public message board are in fact nurses or just playing one online? Your hostile, argumentative responses make it difficult for professionals to want to willingly assist with your assignment. Good luck in your endeavors.
You are telling me what is required of me. This is a soft class wherein I hold the rubric. I think I know what I have to do and what resources I may use. The title of the thread was designed to explain WHY I was asking these questions online and perhaps attract me a couple women who were student moms before their career began and so they could give me some perspective if I were lucky. Not to attract the attention of a harpy who clearly intended never to help me in the first place. What do you do with your time in the forum? Look for questions where you can harass people by trolling with your unhelpful comments? I came for help. Hence my thread title. You start a thread entitled "Who wants to be attacked online?" and let me know how many people you get replying. Or just leave me be in general because this is really pathetic that I have to defend myself in a nursing forum when asking for help.
If I had gotten informed constructive criticism from the start or even one person to answer my questions I would not be on the defensive at this point. And forgive me for having the faith in humanity to think an actual nurse would be willing to help me. I see now I was very clearly wrong and stupid to expect any help. Thank you everyone for enforcing that if I ever want anything I will have to rely on me and only me, great way to foster fellowship within a profession.
I gave you constructive advice and I understand that you are unhappy. I wish you the best.
We will have to agree to disagree. Peace:D
