Hi all,
Pls can anyone tell me which are the best books to be for passing CGFNS examinations. Do anyone of u have any idea of their scoring format. Bcos they ask some 260 questions in all and a total score of 800. That means does each question has a score of 3.076923, or do they give any scores for previous work experience or passing in toefl.
Also is that they pass only general nurses and do not pass any Bsc nurses.
Any additional help for clearing exams will be highly appreciated.
Thanks

There are 260 questions, and they do not all score the same number of points. The only book that will be helpful to you directly is the book that CGFNS sends to you when you register for the exam. Their score has nothing to do with work experience or passing the TOEFL exam, only nursing questions on the exam.
Yes, they pass nurses who have a BSN. The US requires that the nurse be a generalist, not a specialist, as they are in the UK and Australia. The US requires that the nurse has clinical and theory hours in all of the major nursing subjects. If not, the time has to be made up before being permitted to sit for the exam.
Not sure where you are from, but why are you even considering the CGFNS exam? It slows down the whole process of emigrating by at least six months or so. Best bet is to go directly with NCLEX exam and the required English series, if you are not exempt from that. Many states are only requiring a credentials evaluation done by CGFNS and not the exam. And thise that are requiring the exam, you can usually get around that for almost all states by licensing in one that doesn't then endorsing, unless you want to work in Illinois right away. Which is about the only one that would require two years actual work experience in the US if you do not take the CGFNS exam.
Hope that this helps.................would definitely think about skipping this exam, especially that NCLEX will be offered in Hong Kong, Seoul, and London beginning in July, 2005.

Hi Suzanne,
Many thanks for the prompt info.
How about hor the state of michigan how should i go around with this?? any idea. Are u based somewhere in the US please can u email me your contact numbers I can call u up and talk to u. Thanks.
Michigan and Illinois are about the only two that require CGFNS exam.........unless you were not licensed anywhere else............Mi requires that you have been licensed in the US for at least 5 years...
Unless you really need MI, and that is my homestate, I would consider someplace else.
Where did you train?

I am currently in the US, but in Arizona, and with working 12 hour day shifts, the easiest way to contact me is via internet..............you can also send me a PM if you would like.

hi,
i took cgfns last year and i just recently found out my total test score. would anyone tell me the passing score?
thanks alot!
Maria
You need greater than 400 to pass.
greater than 400? but how many questions were asked? 800? is it 50% passing score?
thanks again!
The score that they give you is by the points that you received, it is not the number of questions. And some questions have different points.
You took the exam, didn'y you? There are 260 questions that count, and 15 that are being tested and do not count. Just like on the NCLEX exam.
You need greater than 400 points.

do you have an online account with cgfns? if yes, check that. if no, you should create an account (you have to use a username and password) then you can access your account. it will give you the up to date information about the status of your document.
