Recruiter or Direct Employer? What is the difference?
I'm so disappointed with the wages here in lower Alabama. You'd never guess there was a nursing shortage when all they are offering is around 15-16$/hr for an entry level nurse.
I am getting divorced and I have a new baby and I cannot live on that. PLEASE can someone advise me where to go or who to go thru to get a better salary? I can move to Florida if I have to, but I'm getting desperate here.
Any advice would be appreciated!

Not to hijack the thread, but I have to agree that Minnesota is a great place to live. Moved here 12 years ago and I love it.

:yeahthat: Double hijack!!! I grew up in Minnesota and would go back in a heartbeat if my southern husband wasn't such a freakin' cold-wussy
Seriously, though, not far from where you are, the wages are very competitive here in the Atlanta area with the cost of living being relatively low. Starting wages are around $21/hr base and I personally make a lot more an hour when I work weekend/night hours (especially weekend nights!)
PM me if you want to chat about area hospitals.

I just spent 2 months in Atlanta setting up a new customer and I could not believe the traffic. I will never complain about traffic in the Twin Cities again!! Atlanta was nice though.

Central FL, base just under 21/hr for a new grad, evening diff 18%, nights 25%. Weekender program (every S/S) diff 33 1/2%.

A bit of advice though, before you go checking out any new locales based on $$$ only-sometimes the cost of living sucks, and sometimes nurse to pt ratio is the driver-sometimes 8 to 10 pt, 1 nurse! I work at a hospital where we are guaranteed no more than 5 pt to 1 nurse on med surg floors, and we only make $18 + shift diffs, etc. starting out. Check to see if there is PRN work in the area that pays more before uprooting, unless you really want a change
A good site to check out/compare cost of living from one city/state to another is homefair.com.
Thanks all for your input...The thing is...cost of living here is not THAT much cheaper. Housing, maybe but that's it. Some incidentals are even more expensive than when I lived in Los Angeles. My electric bill, for example, was 250.00 this month. Some kinds of food are more expensive too. I'm thinking Florida. Minnesota does sound nice but I admit, I cannot STAND cold weather. (I think it has something to do with growing up in the north without heat or hot water!)
