:smackingf : I have to do a 15 page research essay for my nursing management class on: "Should nurses condone the use of aborted fetuses for medical research." I cant find any info on this anymore!!I had no choice in topics, she assigned them to us, and it makes it hards for me because while I do agree that nurses should be for scientific research, I think that the topc of aborted fetuses is a bit too controversial and personal.... Thanks y'all for any help!!!

I think maybe you should focus on the fact that using fetuses for scientific research is still controversial, maybe do a search on general code of ethics for nurses, and state your own personal beliefs in the matter. Maybe check into other topics along the same line such as euthanasia, right to live, etc. to pull ideas on how to present your topic.

Being a nurse does not restrict one to a particular point of view. Our job is to take care of patients. Political and religious freedoms belong to nurses also. I have known nurses that refused to assist in abortions. I also know nurses that march for the right to choose. Change the word "nurses" to "anyone" and you will see that ethics is what your paper should be about. There is a ton of information on the new specialty of medical ethics.

Something to think about:
Directives for Human Experimentation
NUREMBERG CODE
1. The voluntary consent of the human subject is absolutely essential.

Notice it says human subject, not human "person"...it would appear to apply to fetuses even under current law because of this.

I also think it's too controversial to write about. Is this a persuasive essay, or an objective one? You should write about both sides, of course.
I'd like to know why your instructor thought that would be a good topic to assign to students. It makes me wonder if the instructor has some emotional attachment to the issue. Then again, maybe the instructor wants you to face this challenge and give objective information. I don't know.
