OK..Here it goes.. I have been dying for a first shift position and now I have been offered two. They are very similiar. My heart isn't really leaning toward one or the other and I need to make a choice soon
1st Job
20 minutes drive
$28.00 an hour
32 residents/2 nurses
$150.00 weekly for family benefits
not great vacation time
laid back
2nd job
15 minute drive
$27.00 hourly
32 residents with a med tech/or med nurse
$220.00 weekly for family benefits
vacation and holiday pay better
not so laid back
any ideas???

I'd take the 2nd one becuase of the med tech. Either 1 sounds great though.
Can I have the one you don't want? I'm indelaware and can't find a thing.
I was leaning toward the second job because the staffing is so good, but the family healthcare is a lot. I am in New England

Okay, first of all. . . I wish I had your problems!! :wink2:
Now that we've gotten that out of the way, I don't know your EXACT situation, so I can only tell you what I would do and hopefully that helps.
I personally would take the first job for the following reasons: It is better pay, and less STRESS which will make a huge difference in how you end up feeling about it. Although the vacation /holiday pay is not as great as the second job, you will see MUCH more of your paycheck as the insurance is significantly lower.
As far as I'm concerned, the only thing the second job has going for it is the vacation/holiday pay, but you get paid slightly less per hour, you're likely to have higher stress levels at this job and insurance would be KILLING your check. The extra 5 minutes is a joke! :chuckle For me the insurance doesn't even factor in as hubby takes care of that but then again, IDK your situation. In any case, $220 weekly is waaaaayyy too much!!! Heck to be honest with you, $150/wk is way too much. My husband pays a fraction of that biweeklyand we have EXCELLENT insurance! Maybe you guys could shop around for some on your own? It may save you a bundle! Sorry I'm starting to ramble so let me just call it quits now! :typing
Hopefully you end up happy with whichever decision you make. Good Luck!
P.S. The whole Med Tech thing is enough for me to boycott the second job alltogether!! I DO NOT agree with them and don't believe they should exist! No offense to the med techs, I'm sure you all are very passionate about your jobs but I would prefer to give my own meds and am trained to do so, therefore, I don't see why one would be necessary. I hope I don't get flamed. . . just my

I'd take #1. Less insurance cost and laid back.

i would go with the less stress job and lower cost of insurance. i currently work a high stress job because the floor is poorly run. trust me; there is not enough vacation time in the world to satisfy me to remain at this facility! none!
Thank you for the input! I agree the cost of health insurance is awful. We have always paid 150.00, so that is not a big change. I unfortunately do have to take it from my employer.
