Hey! I need some help for my nursing study. I've always feel some trouble answering those critical thinking questions. I love some ideas or an example. Will you guys answer the questions below. If you can help me out I'd really apprectiate. Thank you so much! :)

Case study:

Mrs. Hortense putman, a 66-year-old woman, awoke in the middle of the night and fell when she tried to get up and go to the bathrrom .She fell becasue she was not able to control her left leg. Her husband took her to the hopital, where she was diagnosed with an acute rught-sided ischemic stroke (right MCA stroke). Becasue she had awakened with sympotoms, the actual time of onset was unknown and she was not a candiate for tPA.

Subjective Data

  • Left arm, leg, and face are wek and feel numb
  • Felling depressed and fearful
  • requires help with ADLs
  • Concerned about having another strok
  • Says she has not taken her drugs for high cholesterol for many weeks
  • History of a brief episode of lef-sided weakness and tingling of face, arm, and hand 3 months earlier, which totally resolved and for which she did not seek tratment

Objective Data

  • BP: 180/110 mmHg
  • Left-sided arm weakness (3/5) and leg weakness (4/5)
  • Decreased sensation on the left side, particularly the hand
  • Left homonymous hemianopsia
  • Facial droop
  • Lack of awareness of her left side of body (inattention)
  • Overweight; BMI =27
  • Alert, oriented, and able to answer questions appropriately but mild slowness in responding.

Critical Thinking questions

  1. What are the priority nusing interventions for Mrs. Putman?
  2. How can the nurse address Mrs. Putman's concerns regarding having another stroke?
  3. What strtegies might the home health nurse use to help Mrs. Putman and her family cope with her feeling depressed?
  4. How will homonymous hemianopsia affect Mrs. Putmans' hygiene, eating ,driving, and community activities?

No, actually, we will not answer those questions for you. :) This is YOUR homework, not ours. The TOS (Terms of Service) say that.

However, we would be thrilled to death to see what your ideas are on these questions and then we will be glad help you figure out what confuses you.

Why do we say this? Because:

Your faculty wants you to learn about stroke because it's a common problem and you'll see a lot of it.

They want you to learn how to look up an unfamiliar condition and learn from what you look up, which they will be able to observe by reading what you write.

So, what you do now is ...

read in your books about stroke

read up about therapeutic communication and patient teaching

look up the definition of homonymous hemianopsia and figure out what that will mean for this patient

Oh...did you think nursing school was going to be easy? Nope, it's hard, so ... get to work! Can't wait to hear what your ideas are for the answers to your homework assignment.

Sorry, maybe I misguided you. I don't want people to do my homework(this is really not my homework). I am practicing this my own. This is my weak area in the program. I really have trouble summarizing the information into an short answer(What is really right answer, what is the first piority? Not sure you can understand what I am talking about) Every time we have short answers on a test, then I'm doomed. I only need one example on how you guys answer a question like this(just chose one to show me how will you answer the question like this). Thank you.

I for one don't think you came up with all of this yourself, so somewhere from someone or something you must have gotten these questions. If you could write all of this, you would be more than able to answer.

These questions are asking you basics. What would you do for a patient who has experienced these symptoms? What is your main concern for a stroke patient? How can you help her with daily activities? How can you explain her condition to her? Will this stroke effect her living, if so how? Regarding her depression, how can you help her effectively and therapeutically?

This and more is what you should be thinking. These aren't hard if you know your information. Look up what a stroke does to a person, more specifically what homonymous hemianopsia is and does to the body.

You need to use the information and think about what you would do in a clinical setting. GrnTea is right.

What do YOU think? What do we do for patients who've had strokes? What is a stroke? How does it affect them? What are we trying to do with our interventions?

2. How can the nurse address Mrs. Putman's concerns regarding having another stroke?

Again, what do YOU think? Is Mrs. Putman at risk for having another stroke? Is there anything she can do to decrease her risk? What did she tell you she did which may have increased her risk?

3. What strategies might the home health nurse use to help Mrs. Putman and her family cope with her feeling depressed?

What can you do? How do nurses help patients with depression?

4. How will homonymous hemianopsia affect Mrs. Putmans' hygiene, eating ,driving, and community activities?

What is homonymous hemianopsia? If you can answer that, you should be able to answer how it will affect her. Once you present me with your ideas, I will be happy to offer you my perspective as I have a homonymous quadrantanopia.
