Okay so i began nursing school last year. I had done all my pre reqs for RN but due to my moving around from being a military wife i surrendered to filling out apps and being put on waitlist and ended up setteling for nursing school. So I have always gotten good grades even in nursing school and was always seen as "one of the smarter ones" I guess you can say. However by the third month of nursing school I noticed that I began to get anxiety. I ignored it but I got my first panic attack that drove me to the ER. Later that week my doc diagnosed me with anxiety and i was put on antianxiety med. I continued with my anxiety issues and my blood pressure was from the 120/80s to 143/96 which was not normal for me. I have been switched to many meds until they finally but me on zoloft. Not to mention I feel that I have stressed so so so much that now I found out I have colitis and have to get further eval. on what exactly is going on with me. I havent gone to school for like a week and feel horrible cant stop going to the bathroom and throwing up. The zoloft is making me nauseaus and with all the stress from school I am damaging my colon. The truth is I hate nursing school with a passion but I still owe my school all that money from the loans. Is it really worth sacrificing my health? I dont want to dissapoint my family or husband who has been working his butt off so I wont have to work and get through school. Somebody anybody help!!! sorry about the typos not feeling well....

Is it possible that nursing is NOT for you? You say you "settled" for nursing school. Nursing is not for everyone. You may want to take some time off from school and re-evaluate your true desires.

I just started and I came home yesterday and literally started crying . We have tests nonstop over up to 10 chapters already . I knew it would be hard but this seems unbearable . but since you have made it this far DON'T GIVE UP U CAN DO IT . Find something that motivates you . That u can go to or look at every time u feel discouraged that will push u to keep striving ! I'll keep u in my prayers because I know what ur goin thru with Nursing school .
Im trying to hang in there but I have never been so down in my life I am not the same person I was before. And to top it off everytime I go to clinicals I just want to run out of there. Pt are so rude and the fact that they try to sue you over any little thing makes you just feel threatened the whole time. I only have three more months left but am taking leave for a while due to my colitis. Thanks for the advice though !!!!!! yeah and keep me in your prayers please!

One of the girls in my class had a panic attack as well and ended up bombing one of her tests. She not stupid or has bad study habits (a solid B-A student), it's just the weight those exams carry on her future. Funny you should mention blood pressure, the doctor noticed I had elevated blood pressure (+10 systole/diastole) when I went in for immunizations. It has never really been an issue for me. I guess these things will just have some effect on some people.
Get well and best wishes for your return to school!

^ I have to agree. Nursing is not for everyone. If you hate it this badly, please do yourself a favor and quit. I know it sucks to waste the money, but why waste your time doing something you hate? Life is too short, and you could spend that time going after something you really do love instead.

I had to quit nursing school in 2009 because I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis and I was very very sick. At the time I hated school too and thought that nursing was not for me. After my doctor and I got things straightened out and I was in remission I regretted so badly quitting. As sick as I was I couldn't have passed that semester but I wish I would have sought advice from my instructors. I was re-admitted to RN school last year but lost my financial aid so now I am in LPN school. Talk with your instructors and let them know what's going on! Even if you do have to take some time off, make sure you can get back into the swing of things when it is time. Hugs!!!
