Hi everyone just need some non-bias advise. Im a new grad RN Ive been at my job for 3 years as an LVN on a tele/Dou floor and have recieved excellent skills and knowlege. Ill be taking my boards soon and for some reason I'd like to start fresh at a new hospital. The biggest probelm at my hospital is the lack of CNA. Our staffing is done by numbers not acuity and no matter what 5 patient no CNA! It is damn near impossible to do all your work and pass trays, feed patient, give baths, ambulate, answer call lights and clean bowel movements. By the end of the day im pissed 1- because I dont have the time to take care of patient like i want to and 2- im always leaving late 3- im exhausted. But on the other side I enjoy the staff and made very close friends with them, I get along with the doctors and have no problem getting what I need from them because I know them plus I know the routine. Not to mention I got offered 35.00 an hour to stay there as a new grad plus a 3, 000 $ sign on bonus. On a extra weekend it is time and a half all day plus a 250$ bonus.I make my own scheldue, don't have to work weekends if I dont want to and can request time off if i need it. I know money is everything but no hospital will offer me that much as a new grad with no experience. I am having such a hard time deciding what to do. Ive managed to take care of my patients for 3 years like this Im just imagining how much longer I can go on. Any advice will help Thanks!!

It sounds like your frustrated with certain things about your hospital, but I've gotta say that all hospitals have their problems. It sounds like a great deal they're offering, but have you interviewed anywhere else to see what else you are offered? You may get better offers than you expect due to your LPN experience.
I know it's hard to leave the relative security of what you know for what you don't know. What about taking a per diem job at another hospital just to test the waters? (While you're still working at your old place, I mean)

I would take the bonus & stay another year, and then reconsider at that time. Get used to shortages, they're everywhere. In your case, there are a lot of reasons for staying.

I would stay on. To me it's most important to work with people I like and can get along with. Maybe the CNA situation will be temporary. Who knows? If not, you've gained experience, made friends and money. Then move on...:)
