Spring semester class registration begins tomorrow, but they don't release nursing school slots until Tues. How does this work? Do you request your classes (if you get a NS slot) during orientation, or do you request them as soon as you get your slot? My friend wants to make sure she gets the clinical hospital by her house, but we're both clueless as to how this works. Any inputs would be appreciated.

Hi Keli,

Did your friend put down MCC as her first choice?

I was told by some of the Block 2 girls at MCC that the Nursing Dept will place you in your classes. They also said that this year Block 1 students won't be given a choice as to which clinical they want to attend. They used to let you rank your choices but they have done away with that.

Hi Mary,

Yeah, my friend put down MCC as her first choice. I can't believe they don't let you put down which clinicals you want. From what I understand they have a night clinical (which is the one she wants) isn't there any way for her to have a say in it? Actually, most of the people I know who applied put down MCC, I'm sort of bummed I won't get to go to school with them, but hopefully will make lots of new friends at GCC (if I get in). I'm so nervous about Tues., if my number doesn't get placed I'm going to be a complete basket case

My friend and I are going to go out to breakfast Tues morning and then head back to my house at about noon to check and see if they've done the run. I figure if I were at my house all morning I'd be going crazy looking at the computer, better to get out and about and hopefully go home to some good news.

Hi Kelly, I don't know what the rationale is behind that. I'll try to find out more info tomorrow. According to MCCD's website MCC will have a night clinical at Chandler Regional and Desert Sam, but MCC's class schedule says otherwise. It would be nice if they would let us choose between night and day clinicals. The only clinical location at MCC that I would have a hard time attending is Maricopa Med Ctr so I hope I don't get that one (if I get into MCC  )

I wish you were able to go to MCC it would have been fun to be study buddies! Maybe they'll let you take the skills class there? You guys are too funny about tuesday! I will either be working or at the gym......so hopefully I won't be a basketcase!

Hey all,

I'm looking forward to Tuesday too. When do you think they'll post the run results?

I was told they'll start the run sometime between 12 and 1 PM. I plan on being on my computer at around 11:15 and pushing the refresh button, what, like every second or so? Yeah. That's the plan. :roll

I can't wait, I'm going to try and stay busy tomorrow, but I know I won't get any sleep Mon night, ughh. What were your choices again?

Keli

What is "the run"? (Sorry im not in the program yet and just curious on what that is so ill have a heads up Thanks

"The run" is tomorrow when they start placing nursing students for the spring semester. A computer automatically generates your slot based on what your choices for NS's are and a lottery number that's already been given randomly. It goes down starting with #1 and places that person, then to #2 etc. until all the slots are full. Unfortunately I have a pretty high number so I may not be placed in the spring slots :bluecry1: I've got my fingers crossed though. When you turn in your application for NS you can go to a website and check your status, that's what I mean by pressing the refresh button, I'll be checking about every second to see if it's updated so that it says "you've been placed in *****" rather than, "sorry, you have not been placed yet".

Ughh, I need to stay busy so I can get this off my mind!!!!

I thought with the nursing shortage that it would be easier to get placed in a class (un less we really don't have that my instructors). how long is the typical wait I was going to put my name on the list this spring.

The typical wait is one to two semesters. My friend put her name down last March and should get placed tomorrow. I put my ap in June 6th, and may not get placed, so that will be a two semester wait for me since I've already sat out Fall semester. One of the problems is there aren't enough teachers, plenty of students, but not enough teachers.

You may have a problem puttting your name down in the spring. Because they no longer require CNA for next fall a lot of people have opted to wait to apply until spring when the requirement will be gone. The CNA class was really hard to get into and if you went outside the MCC's it was pretty expensive. From what I"ve heard there has been a reduced number of applicants this past spring and summer because of people waiting to get in when the CNA requirement is dropped. That means there's going to be a lot of applicants in spring '06. When do you finish your pre-req's? I'd get my ap in ASAP if you can. Hopefully they'll keep adding schools and classes so that you'll still have only a one to two semester wait when you apply.

That really sucks because I did my CNA in Summer 05 dose that mean i just wasted my time getting that class when i didn’t need it after all? Or dose that mean when it gets incorporated into the RN block I get to opt out because i am a CNA already? I am in my last semester in spring 06 and was told i need to wait until my last semester to apply. I would hate to get "pushed back" even further behind the wait because i did what was required to get in the program. That’s life i guess.

This is so exciting, I cant wait to log on here tomorrow and hear that you all got in. I am at Phoenix college, block 1. I remember checking the computer constantly and then when I wasnt looking I got an email from PC wanting to know if I would like to accept their offer to their nursing program. OMG, dancing around and jumping for joy, finally, and now I am here and it still seems a little sureal, in two weeks I start clinicals at PV hospital, imagine me able to change dressings, pass meds, give injections and start IV's, OMG! The way ours worked was once you are in they do the registering, but they dont have multiply hours available. So I am not sure how yours will work. As far as clinicals, our instructors where great in getting us in to the hospitals that were closest to us.They did say next semester would be different you go where you are assigned and that is that. Good Luck to all of you, let us know as soon you can! Jennette:wink2:
